Aashi Sushi’s $ 1.50 rolls were fantastic. They were fresh, not like another sushi spot’s rolls that was just around the corner(although *slightly* cheaper, they were cold, refrigerated). The only downside was that there hours weren’t longer, but I suppose that’s how they keep things fresh. I highly recommend.

Lunch for under $ 3… In SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA? Yes guys, it’s possible. You just have to crawl into the train station to make this dream a reality. But not that far under, and you will still be able to see the sunlight, I promise! Kidding. Just off George Street in Wynyard station is the cheapest take away sushi I’ve found– Aashi Sushi. I opted for two of their rolls, the salmon /avo and a tuna /cucumber dusted in chili powder. I even splurged and got some pickled ginger and still rung in at under 3 fat gold coins. *Pats myself on back* The rolls were definitely decent. Not the best take away, but certainly not the worst. The seaweed wrap was chewy and the rice sticky and fresh. My salmon /avo roll had a vague sweet taste to it which I wasn’t quite sure about it, but I munched it down despite. The chili powder on the tuna roll was dry and kinda, well, dry… but the roll itself had good flavor. I would totally recommend this place if you’re on a budget, and maybe even if you’re not. But shit, if you could be eating at Rockpool instead. Do it, do it, do it.

Wynyard Arcade may not sund like the most luxurious place to grab your lunch, but it does have quite a few sushi places. Having tried both Megumi and King Sushi Roll, I thought I’d complete the set and head round the corner to Asahi Sushi. It looks like an ATM of the sushi world, a tiny little counter in a hole in the wall, but as the queue shortened and I got nearer I realised this may well be the cheapest sushi I’ve found in Sydney. The pre-made boxes were from $ 4.50 and came with a number of different combinations, including sashimi. There was also a fantastic offers on large rolls which were only $ 1.50, the same price as their Miso soup. Bargain! Being a ‘variety is the spice of life’ kind of gal, I got their cheapest box which included salmon and prawn sashimi, and four chicken teriyaki rolls. Ginger is bought separately. I took my box up the escalators to sit on the grass, an idyllic idea, but you will have to wrestle with Ibis over your lunch. I did find the sushi was a bit too dry, as though the box had been sitting in a fridge for too long, so I missed out on that fresh taste which I so love in sushi. A shame, but what was I to expect at such a great price?
