Ahhh the heritage trail! A little bit of magic winding through Swan View right up through the hills. Excellent for walking, jogging, hiking, horse riding and dog walking in parts. The trail used to be a train track. So it does have nice sweeping curves and undulates up and down with the landscape fairly gently although some of the descents are pretty steep so it is a fantastic exercise for humans and their pets. If you park at the top of Morrison rd at the trail head car park you can walk up through John Forrest National park. The views across the valley’s and then back towards the city are beautiful. The kids totally love the tunnel, which we stumble trip through a lot. Depending when we are up there will give you a different experience because the weekends get really busy. But for an after school walk it’s really quiet and we have been known to play a few games in the tunnel which makes it really fun. On from the tunnel another fair few hundred mtrs is the water fall. In the winter it is gorgeous. You can at that point for the adventurous follow the trail on the opposite side of the falls back down the hill. But keep an eye on trail signs because it is a lot longer walk back and much more strenuous. not for the faint of heart and at times you may feel a little lost. Unfortunately you can’t take the dogs up there. I know ours would love it. But it is a national park and you will run into the odd kangaroo. For a trail that is 20kms from the cbd, it’s absolutely delightful. The small part I have reviewed is just that… the trail winds all the way up through Mundaring and crosses great eastern hwy and comes back down the hill on the Darlington side. An awesome mountain bike circuit too. Check it out. Take water though!
