OMG! I mean… OMG! The breakfast I had here was bloody brilliant! So brilliant that while I was not a massive fan of the coffee I got, I am still giving this place 5 stars(but only just). First off, this place looks inviting. The décor is great, offering an open space for you to occupy, and a back flowery room if that is more to your taste. Either way there is plenty of space to stretch out. The display of breads, sweets and of course the fresh crispy baguettes is mouth watering. If you are not drooling when you are ordering, you are simply not trying hard enough. I ordered the Taste Grill which is basically a big breaky. You get bacon, pork and fennel chipolatas, fried eggs, mushrooms, balsamic roast tomatoes and sourdough toast. On the menu they list the bacon first and with every right they ought to… it was incredible. Often what you will find is a café with cook a mass of bacon at once and then reheat it on order. It seems pretty obvious that these guys cook it from scratch per order. It was so fresh, crisp and hot… I could have happy just had a plate of their bacon. But then I bit into my first(of three) pork and fennel chipolatas. OMG! These little torpedos of juicy pork popped as I bit into them. Juice almost dribbling on my chin. Not only were they juicy, but the taste was AMAZING! The mushrooms and tomatoes were no slouch either. I can’t remember having these things stuffed with so much of a punch before. Really scrumptious! Of course the eggs were warm and gooey… but(and this is the only bad part of the meal) they were placed on the toast which became a little soggy. All in all. this was one sensational breaky… and then there was the coffee… Ordering my mac as per usual, it arrived… and yet again… too much milk. Way too much. So much they while I tasted it… I could not drink it. If I was rating just the coffee this place would be lucky to get a low 3, so they should be thankful that the breaky was outstanding! Want to head back to this place to see if it was just a fluke… :-) Café Summary — — — — — — — — Passion for Coffee — 6⁄10 Coffee beans — Campos coffee Crema(1=burnt, 10=velvet) — 5⁄10 Special coffees avail? — N/A

Taste Baguette bills itself as «a french love affair with vietnamese flavours» and while that may sound bizarre it is so, so good. Take for example the Chicken Vietnamese baguette with chilli, carrort, cucumber, spring onion, coriander and soy dressing, delicious with a good kick. Taste boasts an awesome selection of phở’s, ricepaper rolls and noodle dishes as well as a boulangerie style selection of pastries, cakes and pies. Taste on Foveaux is renowned for its coffee — Campos — but expect to wait at least 10 — 15 minutes on a weekday when the locals are queueing up for their fix. The best part of this store is the tiny courtyard, which has been bamboo and plants all over and looks like a little asian garden dropped into the middle of Surry Hills.
