Ali Baba’s Kebabs

Verdict: While I never thought I’d say it, as far as Kebabs go, London has been completely eclipsed by Gold Coast’s unbelievable «Aussie Kebabs», and Ali Baba’s is one of the many shops around Surfers Paradise that offers up these tasty meals for under $ 10.

Quick and easy, the service at Ali Baba’s and many of the other shops is friendly and accommodating. Star Granted.
Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost?
Yes, $ 10 may seem like a lot, especially for those of you coming in from the US, UK or EU, but you’ll quickly realize that it’s the norm for even a quick meal out. Luckily, these kebabs truly are massive, and it turns out you’ll get good value for your $ 10 (which should include a drink). Check it out.

Stars 3 and 4: How was the food?
I truly thought I’d reached Kebab heaven this Summer while living in London, but those greasy treats truly do pale in comparison with what is available in Gold Coast. On top of the standard choice between Lamb, Beef and Chicken with toppings such as Chili Sauce, Garlic Yogurt Sauce, lettuce, onions and hot peppers, Aussie Kebabs step it up a notch, often offering up to six different sauces, mushrooms, and jalapenos. Sound good? It gets better, because once you select your ingredients, the whole bit is wrapped up in a tortilla and grilled on all sides, making the whole thing crispy (for those of you coming in from America, think Taco Bell’s Grilled Stuffed Burrito only ages better). This truly is a kebaby bliss, and with fresh ingredients (far less oily than London’s offerings), my kebabs in Gold Coast were some of the best meals I’ve had. Period. Dual Stars Granted.
Star 5: Would you eat here every day if you could?
Yes, yes yes. A thousands times yes. Having sampled Kebabs in Europe, North America and now Australia, those in Gold Coast are without a doubt the best I’ve ever had. Star Granted.
