Nothing beats the Port Elliot bakery but this is pretty good. After the antics of the Casper forced us to flee the nice sit down restaurant up the road clutching only our jumbo coffees, we stopped here for a quick breki to eat in the car(where doggy antics are more acceptable). I went for the apricot Danish with tart filling oozing out with every bite, while J had the choc donuts. Yummmmmm. Might have to try the pizza in the front window next time.

This is a decent little bakery with nice bread, and a good range of things to cure any sweet tooth. They do get pretty busy, so for the best selection you want to get here before the lunchtime rush. The staff somehow manage to serve you really fast, but still make you feel like they have given you the time of day. Thumbs up from me!

I have to disagree with the other reviews of this place. I wasn’t impressed at all. Where are the cakes everyone is talking about? The selection here when I came on a Wednesday lunchtime was very limited. A couple of quiches, hardly any pies, and an uninspiring range of sweets that looked filled with fake colouring. I tried a strawberry muffin because it looked the least fake(and the woman behind the counter recommended it). Disappointing. A plain cupcake like muffin, with a clump of strawberry jam in the middle. That’s not a strawberry muffin! Muffins have ingredients mixed all through them… that’s why they’re so awesome. This was a cheap and nasty cupcake. I didn’t get any bread because I have an aversion to food sitting out in the open. They keep their bread in open racks, which makes me cringe a little. I give this about 1.5 stars.

Oooooooow, time for a hangover flash back. I think I have only been in this store twice when I was not hungover and reaking of scotch… and I don’t really like scotch! This poses two problems when composing this Unilocal, one is that I was probably in a stupidly bad mood when I was there and two, My taste buds were more than likely on temporary leave! But we battle on! I am going to go out on a limb and give the bakehouse 4 stars, mainly because without them my ‘day after’ probably would have been a lot worse on so many occasions! I do recall, on my sober visits, that the sausage rolls are very good though and they make a mean curry pie! By the way, just for the record, the sausage rolls taste a lot better on the way down. Remember, the reason some of them came back up had NOTHING to do with the Bakehouse… I blame Mr Walker, he is a terrible influence on me!

Home-style bakery of the old faithful variety. In terms of atmosphere there’s not much to look at in the Semaphore Bakehouse — but when you have cheesecake and meringues in view, let’s be honest: who needs anything else? When I come in here it is for one of two reasons: 1. The bread. Baked daily, natch, it’s super soft and fresh. Just add Camembert for instant happiness. 2. The cakes. Diets are for suckers — cakes were made to make us happy and I like being happy. The selection is good, with all the usual suspects like donuts and fruit slices, custard tarts and berlinas *mouth waters*. The staff are always quick and friendly, which is a plus because that line can get seriously hefty at peak times. There are plastic chairs and tables out the front, which add vert little to the atmosphere and are generally unoccupied — and with the beach just metres away, why would you? While the pie and other hot baked goods selection is fine, whatever I’ve had has been just OK, not mindblowing. So I say stick to the cakes, head down to the foreshore and win at life.

Best cheesecakes in Adelaide! Resistance is useless as once you walk in here, it’s goodbye diet and helloooo sweetie. Choose from Cherry or Apricot cheesecake in original size or now they have a smaller version. Bread — nothing better than biting in fresh white bread, it’s hard to stop. The staff are really friendly and quick, they have to be as there’s always lots of people in there waiting to be served. And the patrons are pretty great too, I remember a couple of months ago I went in and ordered a cheesecake and a pie for brunch — to clarify the pie only was brunch! — and I was 80 cents short to pay the full amount, how embarrassing! To my aid was the lady to the left of me and a long leather clad arm reached over from the right offering money. I was humbled but couldn’t accept, the cheesecake had to go. But how’s that for hospitality, it’s not often that happens! You can be stuck for 5 cents at a supermarket and not one offer for assistance or a ‘forget it’ from the checkout person, just doesn’t happen. Pastries, cakes, cheesecake, bread, variety of pies, pasties, sausage rolls, those freckle face cookies and more of all the good things in life. A few plastic tables and chairs out the front if you’re not in a rush. The prices are very reasonable, so pay a visit and support the local community.
