This is a men’s barber shop. This is a no book barber that always has a queue That does reasonable priced hair cuts and provides the best experience for a hair cut I have ever had in my life. The staff are always changing but alway a great joy. But what makes this place so special is the music and the beer. Thats right beer available with every hair cut. If your close and a bloke this is the place to have your hair cut.

No frills hair cut, if you are looking for anything else you are going to the wrong place. Been there a couple of times now, and the cut has always been good. The staff are always great for a laugh too. They also throw you a free beer while you wait. Their beer of choice is Coopers which has a best AFTER date, so it’s easy for one to think the beer is past expiration. Just saying…

My second visit unfortunately wasn’t a successful one. This time, there was a performer singing songs and much to the surprise of those waiting to get a haircut were shocked at the vulgar nature directed to customers, of who I assume was the owner, who didn’t clap after a song. I thought we were at a barber and not a concert hall. I took the beer on my second visit and found the expiration date has passed. This explains why its free and their incompetence of letting the customer know about it. Then came the lack of professionalism of the hairdresser and the clumsy nature of the haircut. A few tips, clean the chair from hair before the customer sits. Remove the hair from the sheet THEN place it on the customer. The haircut was pretty mediocre, and a reflection on the negatives that’s contained in this review. I really wanted to like Dr Follicles, it has the right ideas but executed poorly and you can tell as its on display. The fainéant nature of those employed there need to be reminded as ‘hipster’ as you would like to be, you’re still a business and some level of professionalism(no swearing please, especially when directed at customers) needs to be in place, especially make an effort to be hygienic. Another improvement? Employ some decent hair cutting technique so the consumer is not constantly ready to blow steam at the hairdresser. This was another example of why this place is dumbfounding, one employee asking customers to move down to make room when the customer could have just walked half a metre to sit on the chair that’s left vacant. It’s too much of a frustrating and inconsistent experience to visit this place again. This is my last visit.

While my partner was searching for a hair stylist to cut his hair at, we chanced upon Dr Follicle on Swan Street. Since the last time he had been to an old-school barber was when he was a wee tot, he thought he’d try it just for the heck of it. Bad decision! We’re not sure if the staff were drunk or just not in the mood but the haircut was bad — with chunks of hair longer in some parts. The service was funny! And when I say funny, I actually mean bad and noisy since the barber kept lamenting about this customer he had before. Seriously?! The music was also a little too loud so we really couldn’t wait to get out but I have to admit the interior was cool! In the typical old-fashioned setting that made you feel like you had stepped into an old movie. My partner was quick to point out that you don’t go there for the interior and I was glad I wasn’t the one getting the hair cut. All in the experience I suppose but thankfully for my partner, his hair will eventually grow back. Lesson learned!
