We were visitors from Adelaide and just chose it at random on a wet Sunday night — great rapport and service — and the food was fantastic — and the Greek red wine was excellent. Also great dessert and coffee — thank you for a lovely evening. Highly recommended — if we come back to Melbourne will try to dine here again.

We were taken to Agapi Greek Restaurant by a friend who claimed there was nothing better to do than go to town on their mixed grill. And boy was he right. That thing was off the hook! Featuring mixed souvlaki, gyros, sausages, keftedes & lamb cutlets, it was huge and each element was packed full of flavour. As for Agapi itself, the restaurant is pretty massive. It has two levels — we got a table upstairs. Despite it being so big, it seems to be fill up a lot. It is wise to book as we did. The décor is very homely and warm and the atmosphere is fairly buzzing. The service was very good and they gave good advice on our entrée choices. They have a good range of seafood on offer as well besides their mixed grill goodness. In short, this place was a winner and we’ll be back again soon.

When I think of Greek cuisine, I think of meat and lots of it. From seafood to various selections from the grill, Greek cuisine definitely does meat properly. Agapi, which is located on Swan St, is a family owned restaurant that serves homemade Greek food. Made from red bricks that create a warm and cosy environment, it definitely has a touch of home in its design. On the menu are traditional Greek dishes including saganaki($ 10), grilled goat’s cheese; Moussaka($ 20.5), lasagne-like dish made with eggplant instead of pasta sheets; and Kokkinisto($ 21.5), oven baked rack of lambs. Dishes from the grill include chicken, lamb, or mixed soulvaki($ 18-$ 21.5) or a mixed grill with souvlaki, gyros, sausages, keftedes and lamb cutlets. Perfect for sharing, you can order a mixed grill $ 23 for one, $ 45 for two, $ 60 for three, and $ 80 for four. We ordered a combination of entrees and a mixed grill and everything was delicious. The meats in the mixed grill were tender, juicy, and succulent. I loved our octopus entrée — the texture was rubbery, but it tasted great. By the end of the meal, I was stuffed. For wine, we ordered a varietal indigenous to Greek — I can’t recall the bottle, but it was definitely interesting. Perhaps not my favourite wine, it was very tannic and not very smooth.
