This is another good Potts Point eating destination. Set in busy Challis Avenue this place provides an appealing alternative to the many other options available nearby. Our two recent experiences have been truly enjoyable. Fish(or seafood) is the focus however there are three alternatives dishes being a rabbit, pork or lamb. We came for the seafood and loved our dishes. On the second occasion we started with salt and pepper squid, and the beetroot salad. A good start however better was to come. The two mains were spectacular. The taste was a true delight, they presented well and were good sizing. These two dishes were the fried crispy whole baby red snapper with onion, the right amount of chilli, ginger and a sweet sour glaze, and the seafood and saffron pie. This ‘fish pie’ presents superbly and tastes even better with the mussels, prawns, fish of course, puff pastry and kipfler potatoes. Wonderful eating… and on the first visit we had the grilled barramundi and poached blue eye cod. Both were delicious… The service is good and it is a comfortable environment dining… BYOG if you wish. This is lovely place to have a relaxed dinner and good value for money.

Awesome restaurant terrific food! The staff, the location, the ambiance, was divine! They quickly seated us and told us a bit about the menu which was beyond wonderful! The fried snapper was to die for the wonton prawns were rich and delicious. They were served with an outstanding sauce which complimented a few parts of my date and I meals marvelously. We were seated late and the restaurant closed before we finished and we had a wonderful chat with the owner who at no point rushed us out or in any way made us feel un-welcomed. I am rating this a hard 5 stars because it was a speculative dinner and an awesome end to a wonderful weekend!

Flippen fabulous! Best seafood that I’ve had in years and the folk that work there are knowledgeable and super friendly. Thank you other Unilocalers, you’re the reason we went. The service and food are why we will return.

If you want a place where you feel like a local the moment you step in the front door, make a reservation at Sardine Room. The owner Angie will know your name when you walk in and takes a genuine interest in how your day has been and what you’re looking for in a dining experience at Sardine Room. She sat with our table for a full 15 minutes talking through the menu, some of her favourites and just chatting in general. She’s exceptionally passionate about Sardine Room’s food and the service they provide and you can tell that she absolutely loves what she does. That translates into excellent food and an overall experience that is second to none in Sydney. The food was fresh and flavourful and the serving sizes very generous– I had a bit of food envy when I saw that every other table had order the sardines as an entrée. We opted for the scallops instead which were amazing, but the next time I go I’ll take Angie’s advice and go with either the squid ink ravioli or crispy sardines. The emphasis for the restaurant is seafood(duh?) but they do have one beef option. I have a feeling if you order this the chef may call you a bad name, as there are so many good seafood options. We opted for the cod curry(spicy but not too much heat) and the grilled barramundi(with amazing vietnamese salad underneath) and left fully stuffed. They’re currently closed for a month but I will definitely be making this a regular spot– if not for the food for Angie’s great service!

It’s been a while since I visited this place and the fact that they ve been in business for a while says something abt the restaurant. What keeps this joint successful is the fact that the owner is very passionate about food — if nothing else. The menu is her creation and her baby, you’d be able to tell by talking to her. The craftsmanship and the amalgamation of ingredients are the true testament of incontrovertible understanding of local seafood market and spices available to her. As a result, a pure decadent experience is what you can expect from this establishment.

So, you sit down and the delightful proprietress pulls up a chair and chats with you about the menu and your preferences in a most thoughtful way. Once you’ve agreed on the order it arrives quickly and it exceeds your expectations. It was a warm summer night so we sat outside which was private yet lively with foot traffic(but luckily very few cars as it is on a side street) and several nearby restaurants adding to an overall festive mood. A very charming experience… We had the steamed prawn won tons and soft shell crab with Vietnamese salad. The wontons were stuffed with delicious shrimp and the dipping sauce was slightly spicy, a great combination. Still on a soft shell kick we had the squid ink linguine with soft shell and the whole fried snapper along with a side order of the same Vietnamese salad that accompanied the starter. The linguine contained long ribbons of zucchini which were a perfect complement to the pasta. The snapper had a sauce of soy, chili and ginger. It was a remarkable meal. We finished with a fancy vanilla custard(I can no longer remember its myriad parts, all yummy) which was more than enough for two to share.

This is actually only a recent find for me despite living just around the corner from this place. I honestly can’t say enough nice things about Sardine Room. I walked up with a friend on a Sunday evening and despite only having one server, we were seated right away and the service was fantastic all evening long. The menu has a good range of dishes, but their specialty is clearly fish. My friend and I enjoyed the scallops and cauliflower starter, then I had atlantic salmon with quinoa, and finished off with a mapley butterless bread and butter pudding — all delicious. I’ll definitely be back.
