So this is a bit of an odd place. Like a nightclub meets a bar. Which is a bit random on a Wednesday night at 730pm. But anyway the staff are at least very friendly. There are two outdoor areas — one is actually on beach street and you can eat there. The other one is on Bay Street and you can smoke there so happy all round! I had the Greek lamb salad which was delicious and a nice and salty side of fries. Not somewhere I would run back to but nice and convenient location.

Can’t believe I hadn’t visited sooner. We took out out-of-towners visitors here for dinner and they too were very impressed. Good attentive service and great wine list. Every plate at our table was basically licked clean. We ordered the beef ragout pappardelle with chilli, tacos, snapper, the lamb share plate, chilli mussels and a salad plus dessert(salted caramel apple crumble and churros). After dinner we retreated to lounge/bar area to watch the footy. There was plenty of seating and we had the fireplace to ourselves. A top night!

The Pier is my new local! It’s a great all-day and night beachside bar/lounge/restaurant in Port Melbourne at the very end of Bay Street. The handful of outdoor street-side tables and couches are a perfect spot for enjoying a cocktail or a jug of pimms after spending the day at the beach. The pink cucumber martinis while a bit girly are delicious as is the strawberry and chili caipirinha. There is also an extensive wine menu. The food is solid, typical Australian gastro pub fare(a mixture of steaks, roasts and Asian fusion salads). Prices are high — not great value for money, but you’re paying for the bay side location. I usually get the tasty Vietnamese salad which comes with marinated grilled steak. All in the Pier is one of the better all day drinking/eating beachside establishments in Port Melbourne.

Great food, great atmosphere, horrible service. While we were seated almost immediately it took the waitstaff almost half an hour to even bring us menus, cutlery and water then another 20 minutes just to take our drink order let alone our food order. Admittedly once the orders were placed the food and drinks did arrive in a timely manner but once our mains hit the table that was it for service. We were actually interested in getting another round of drinks and I did try to get our waitress’s attention as she flirted away with the guys at the table next to us but no such luck. After 45 minutes of just sitting there hoping she or any other staff member would swan their way over in our direction to see if we were ok or needed anything else I finally had to get up and go to the bar and request our bill so we could leave. Incredibly disappointing service especially considering the cost of the meal and I am quite frankly unlikely to go there again.

I would give this place 4 stars if it was a bit cheaper. The food was good the service fantastic. The view is spectacular so all in all I guess it all balances out.

A great place to go on a summers evening and always attracts a friendly vibrant crowd. I have found the wait staff to be friendly and always accommodating. With an evenly spread combination of restaurant, bar and function space, The Pier encourages that«stop by» and have a glass type of environment. Whilst a relaxed atmosphere is encouraged, they also hold private functions, which are sophisticated in design and requires a crowd to match. Waterfront views and classic breakfast options are also served daily! Its hard to keep walking when The Pier really is the whole package

This heritage listed building has certainly gone through some changes over the years, but The Pier has emerged as one of Port Melbourne’s best nightspots, particularly since it has gone to great lengths to cater for a predominantly professional crowd. With cool, trendy lighting and solidly booked function room, The Pier offers a roomy modern style bar during the week and a rather crowded club atmosphere on the weekends. With the façade and some of the smaller rooms retaining their heritage listed appeal, The Pier is a perfect venue for a night of weekend drinking or a midweek relax.
