Recommended this bar by the person I’d met for coffee earlier that morning, I declined their idea of drinking an entire bottle of scotch(more of a winter idea) and instead selected one of the Feral Brewing beers available from a fairly extensive menu. To chase it down and combat the summer heat I also ordered a pineapple juice — I would have loved if there were some juice blends or mocktails on offer to counteract the caffeine and alcohol intake. Nevertheless, the Sly Fox was a delicious drop and the service from the bartender prompt and friendly. While this seems like a fantastic place to hang out with a crowd, it’s also ideal for secret rendezvous in the massive high back chairs on the side closest to the street. Perfect for if you’re sharing secrets with your bestie or meeting that new man that you don’t want your friends to know about yet. The people-watching potential looking down on the mall is pretty fabulous too.

To be fair I wanted to give the Aviary 3.5 stars but since I cannot do that, 3 it is then; it is probably my age showing but whilst I like most things about the venue there are some things that just don’t gel with me. Firstly the good! The staff are generally helpful, the drinks list is good, and the food is fairly interesting, plus the venue itself is fairly original. The not so good, it gets crazy busy, like can’t order a drink busy; and when the DJ gets going it is impossible to speak; and there is often not enough cover from the sun during the day; nothing major but there are other venues better suited to me I guess.

The Avairy is one of my favourite city bars in Perth. The location is amazing if you are like me and don’t say no to a quick drink after shopping in the city. If you are lucky enough to get a table, you’ll be able to enjoy great cocktails in the sun and the food is not to be passed by either!

The Aviary rooftop bar is a great spot for a drink and a sit-down when your feet are tired from shopping. I love the décor and the fake lawn. We just stopped for a drink and I had the Aviarian Punch which was fruity, not too sweet and very refreshing. It was pretty quiet on the day in question as it had been raining, but I imagine this place gets pretty busy normally!

The rooftop is such a cool place to go to. I’ve been to a few events here and it has so much to offer. Great variety of cocktails(a bit on the pricey side but they don’t skimp on the alcohol) and other drinks on offer. They regularly run promos. They have a members club which is actually awesome and recommend(it’s valid at the areas in the Aviary). Plenty of varied seating, from stools to benches to comfy seats and seats that you can get cosy on and lie down if you wish. It’s on the roof do on the warmer months it’s extra lovely. If you’re sitting on the boundary you can look down and watch the world go by if you wish. The bar food is also pretty tasty, at the last event I went to it was food to match the beer that we were sampling and I must say the slider we had was really really tasty. I’m yet to order anything other than chips from the bar menu though but I must say they were yummy too! The staff are friendly and helpful. Can’t wait to go back there again as it really has it all.

I absolutely love the concept of a rooftop bar and the Aviary’s Nest Rooftop is the best in town! It ticks all the right boxes, al fresco area, cool seating, cosy nooks and even fabulous hanging egg chairs! I have still to experience the joy of sitting in one of the swinging egg chairs as they are always highly coveted. Never you fear, I will get there early one day and snag one and then it might be a struggle to get me out of it. Can you almost picture me, sitting there, serenely sipping my cocktail a look of pure pleasure on my face swinging away to my heart’s content? Bliss! The cocktails at The Nest are lovely to look at and pack a punch. I am working my way through the cocktail menu and so far I have enjoyed the Marshmallow Sour(complete with marshmallow swizzle), French 75 and the Mojito. The food is always amazing no matter what you choose. The fish and chips I tried was delicious and had a spicy edge to it. The lamb ribs and the popcorn shrimp with Tabasco mayo are so tasty, you will not want to share them! I also love the soft shell crab sliders and the Reuben sandwich. The soft shell crab sliders are a steal at $ 20 for three and the flavour is enhanced by the Singapore chilli and the crunchy slaw. There is always a fun event to celebrate special days! This year alone, I have had the pleasure of attending Canada Day, Christmas in July and The Ice Bar party. The celebrations are themed, so you enjoy the food and drink pertaining to the event. On Canada Day, there was a moose, poutine, Montréal sandwiches, Bloody Cesars, Canada Dry cocktails and more. There were giveaways and everyone had a great time. Christmas in July was wonderful with an Ugly Sweater competition and really brightened up our winter! The recent Ice Bar party saw the Nest transformed into a winter wonderland. Snowflakes, giant ice sculptures and cocktails served in glasses fashioned from ice were the order of the day! There was a competition to win several bar cards! All you had to do was pick away for 2 minutes at a giant ice block and release your prize! It was a hoot, watching people armed with the ice pick, shearing away at the ice! There is always music and on some days there is even some live entertainment. The staff at the Nest are young, friendly and efficient. They are good sports as they always get into the spirit of things and dress up for event days. Join up as a member of the Aviary and you will reap the benefits. You will receive invitations to exclusive members’ parties, a complimentary cocktail for you and your friend on your birthday, a point for every dollar you spend and much more! So, if you are looking for a lovely, relaxed venue for you and your crew, take the stairway to the top and enjoy a break from frenzy that is life!

Just a little on the expensive side, but it’s a good respite with a cool atmosphere right in the heart of the Perth CBD. Service was friendly, quick and courteous. Beer selection is large. I enjoyed going mid-day for some drinks with coworkers– definitely not so loud you can’t have a conversation, so I appreciate that.

I enjoyed my salmon salad but the music was too loud to think straight. I think we waited too long for our meal to arrive. Our lunch took more than 30min to come out. My husband’s and FIL’s meal wasn’t enjoyable unfortunately. They both ordered Salt n Pepper Squid: but instead of being served rings coated in crispy batter, they were served rubbery spirals in a cereal bowl.

Still love this place, they keep making it fun and doing what they should. Such as cocktail jugs and concerts on a Sunday! Well done avairy!

Nice bar to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city below. Plenty of space with many different places for groups to gather. Very nice range of beers on tap and nice range of spirits for the various cocktails on offer. The bar serves food, mostly things to be shared which was good for the occasion and they even had a big screen showing the Freo vs. swans game although it didn’t look like a typical footy crowd but hats off to making the effort. A little chilly in the current weather but in summer it would be a great place to spend an afternoon session or a warm evening. Like every thing in Perth it is a little pricey

I really didn’t think I would enjoy the Aviary but I have to say that a Sunday sesh at The Nest was great. And being open-air, a summer Sunday sesh was particularly good. There’s lots of room and a lot of places to sit or even lie down(huge wicker chairs anyone!?) to enjoy your afternoon or night. The bar serves alcohol and food and they have a range of cocktails in jugs that are amazing but also a bit dangerous! Music is average but good for background to noisy chatter. It can be a bit pricey but if you’re splitting cocktail jugs with a friend or doing rounds, you should be fine :)

I love the idea of rooftop bars and this one is in a wonderful location right in the heart of beautiful Perth! :) However, it’s too expensive for what you get. It becomes tiresome when new things open in Perth and automatically they slap on the high prices, twice as much as other cities, for what ever reason I don’t understand! Yes the view is nice, well done. The food is meh. The drinks — well they are pretty standard — straight from the tap or bottle. Cocktails — WOWSER, expensive and yet not perfected. I love my cocktails and I can tell a real Cosmopolitan from a… bit of vodka and cranberry juice — it’s not the same thing. I love the concept and on a sunny day it’s wonderful up there, but I highly recommend you save your pennies before you visit.

The nest– situated in the avairy(logically on the roof) one thing’s for sure.. . you’ld have to be pretty passionate about birds to work here! The name indicates there is a bit of a high flying theme but this branding takes no prisoners– that’s what the statement peacock in the dining room said– making for the stairs to the roof I almost didn’t notice the large bird cages suspended from the ceiling due to the bird infused wall paper.. . at this point I was starting to think maybe someone took this bird branding a bit too far. Luckily, when I made it to the roof the first thing I saw was not bar staff in bird costumes! As such I began to relax. The can turf on the roof is novel and although the beer and wine selections were limited–(the cocktail list was relatively uneventful) On a Wednesday arvo at beer O’clock it would be nearly impossible not to enjoy the surroundings. The bright yellow dwarfed tables reminded me of stylised mishrooms and the canturf looked like it would sport a great put put course if given the chance.(perhaps another opportunity to get some more birds on the scene with pink flamingo putters?) The wide screen playing music clips made for a summer days vibe but it was evident that this nest would transform with a clickier crowd when the sun went down. I’m happy to leave the fascinator at home and keep this nest for day time play.

The Aviary boasts a number of spaces. The Bird Cage is its restaurant. The Nest is its rooftop bar. My review here is of the latter: a beautifully designed watering hole that combines a certain hipster mentality with a degree of exclusivity. A Saturday afternoon at the bar is a good opportunity to observe the former quality. Groups sit around enjoying wine and food – everyone seems to be eating the very impressive-looking wagyu burgers – while the large screen at the end of the bar shows the movie LABYRINTH. A Gen Y favourite that nostalgia has preserved and that the horn-rimmed have made cool. The thongs have been kicked off and everyone is letting the Astroturf tickle the soles of their feet. Things are a little different at night. For one things, thongs aren’t allowed anymore, and on Friday and Saturday groups can secure themselves a VIP table for one thousand and eight hundred dollars, respectively. This is where the sense of exclusivity is to be felt.(As it is in the fact that one requires written permission from the owner to take photographs. Mine were taken before I was warned not to take any more.) The wine list is short but solid, offering at least one example of each major varietal by the glass and favouring Western Australia, South Australia and New Zealand.(There are also two French champagnes.) The cocktail list is even shorter, and the drinks on it tend towards the sweet end, but all are well-suited to the sun-kissed setting. Which is, in the end, the bar’s real draw. The Aviary’s Nest is the perfect place to while away the afternoon and usher in the rather more exclusive evening.
