Miss Mauds is a great little lunch spot. They have pies, pasties, sausage rolls, sandwiches, rolls and CAKES! Their sandwiches are always fresh and full of fillings. They also have some on Scandinavian rye which is my fav. Their steak and mushroom pie is also delicious. An easy place to stop and find something quick for lunch.

When is my turn to bring morning tea at work I get quite excited just thinking about going to miss maud. Huge variety of pastries, cakes, sandwiches and rolls. Not cheap but top notch quality. You got to try the mini chocolate croissant! Filled with chocolate mousse? Ahhh They also do take away coffee ;0)

My dad is a pastry chief and when I was a little girl he always bad mouthed Miss Maud’s. I think because they were commercial and cheap(well compared to his cakes) that he wasn’t a fan. I reckon getting caught in Miss Maud’s would have been worse for me than getting caught smoking at school. Only 5 years ago, I caught my dad having breakfast here and he admitted that when he comes up to Perth he dines here, a secret mistress after all these years? Who would have though that my dad would have got it on with Miss Maud’s in Perth? so if it gets his thumbs of approval it must be good. I just love their steak pies here and all the Danishes are fantastic! The coffee is a little week though.

Oh man, I love Princess Cake so much. I love it so much that I don’t even mind feeling like the worlds’ biggest lame-o, a twenty-nine year old man ordering something that sounds like it should appeal to an eight year old girl. Seriously though, it’s some kind of custardy-cream-cake wrapped up in marzipan icing. Marzipan! Miss Mauds’ is pretty much the only place I know that enables my tragic addiction to this treat and they do a splendid version of this cake. They also make a range of delicious pies and other cakes, all of which are available on a per slice basis. The pies here are actually worthy of their own Princess Cake-style rant, but I’ll spare you that so long as you believe me when I say they are delicious. The only thing you need to avoid here is the gingerbread. It’s bulk produced and is that weird northern European kind, where it’s blandly bitter instead of sweet and gingery. That’s OK though. Why have gingerbread when you can rock some princess cake!!?

This little place is positioned next to the Miss Maud’s restaurant and hotel. Apart from the people working here in the Miss Maud’s uniform it seems like a different place. It looks like a normal café as a-pose to the actual restaurant, which is set in the old days and has a swedish theme. The food at the pastry house is actually really good. Gourmet sandwiches, with fresh tasting fillings, cakes with the power to make my knees weak, and pastries that put a smile on my face. I am a vegetarian and there usually aren’t a lot of options, this isn’t the case with Miss Maud’s. They had this amazing ‘sausage’ roll with pumpkin and sweet potato. It blew me away. They have chairs outside so you can sit and people watch on Murray St. Also if you have an appointment in the hospital or are visiting a friend, it is a nice alternative to the Royal Perth Hospital café.
