If you move out of the country, beware, you must call them to ask them for your credit back, after your account is closed (thus, likely from abroad). Their internal procedures are wacky — I called them two weeks prior to leaving to ask about their procedure for closing my home wifi and mobile phone accounts with them. The rep said to call about 7 business days prior to leaving to set the account closure date so that I could receive my final credit within 7 business days. I called back 7 business days before leaving and was told that I should call back on the day I wanted to close the accounts, even though that would be on a Sunday. I called back on that Sunday and the rep was finally able to close the accounts. The rep did not have access to the billing section of my accounts so was unable to confirm the credit or credit amount. I waited 5 business days because I wanted to close my Australian bank account quickly and called iiNet. The rep said that she could transfer the credit into my credit card, so I took steps to close my Australian account while I was on the phone with her. She then proceeded to tell me that their IVR system was down and that I had to call back to have this done the next day. She also told me that it was good that I was calling because iiNet doesn’t automatically put credits back into customers’ accounts and that I needed to call to ask for this. Wow, that’s not what I call even trying to give service to customers. I was a raving fan 3 years ago when I first signed on, but my experiences with them over this time has convinced me that they must be experiencing massive growing pains.

iiNet are renowned for fast reliable internet service, this you cannot ignore. However I moved away from them due to the fact I genuinely believe they are vastly over priced.
Sure they have a great service ethos and are quick to solve issues, but really how many issues does a customer really experience during a 12 month period with there internet.
Yes I am a big user of data, thus this clouds my judgement a little as most of there plans offer limited amount of data. Sure you can opt for the big plans but they are so expensive.
I have chosen this time around to go with a lesser established company, not renowned for the best service but at $ 40 a month with unlimited uploads and downloads why would iiNet even get a look in.
So to summarise iiNet is a great service in my opinion brought back to earth by expensive uncompetitive plans.
Plus I hate how they have Applfied there name with the small letters followed by a capital N

iinet and I go back to their beginning. Fast, reliable internet Generous download allowances. Twice they have increased my downloads in the past 12 months, without increasing the costs.

I have been a customer of iinet for around 10 years now. They have got larger and larger over the years. Every other month it feels like you hear they have bought yet another company out. But I love that a local company has done so well.
Although they have got really really big they are yet to lose their soul. Their prices are great, their download allowances are generous and several times in the past few years they have increased the allowances dramatically without increasing the price. I have only had one major outage in the past few years, and it didn’t last more than 2 hours.
I have never really had to talk to their staff as I haven’t had many issues. The only thing that let them down was the original BOB modem/​phone. I had several problems with setting it up, which was resolved by their support team. However, it did continually disconnect, so I ditched and got a brand new modem.

iiNet has grown from a garage operation to Australia’s second most popular provider [as the ads will happily tout]. It is quite an achievement for an ISP to start off being a provider of dialup internet, where so many others of a similar vintage have fallen [or had been absorbed into the iiNet empire, such as Arachnet].
There is a good reason for iiNet’s ability to thrive — good customer service and stable service. While the plans at iiNet are not the cheapest on the market, the extra few dollars means a connection that is rarely down. iiNet, however, can be expensive if you are looking for a standalone service, but if you are happy to bundle your phone and internet connections together, iiNet offers competitive deals.
iiNet is an excellent ISP, although with some of its helpdesk having migrated offshore, it remains to be seen if iiNet’s customer service will remain high.

Waaaay back in the nineties I finally accepted that my trusty Commodore Amiga 1200 was dead, joined the PC revolution, and decided to get hooked up to the Internet. My first ISP lasted about four days — some mob called Nettrek, with horrible latencies to everywhere, operating out of some Internet café in, I think, Fremantle. I wrote the rest of my first and only month’s subscription off as a loss and signed up for iiNet dialup. This was when most people only pronounced one of the I’s in the company name and around the time iiNet was operating out of CEO Michael Malone’s garage and was just thinking about shifting to larger premises.
In the intervening years I have remained an iiNet customer in some shape or form. I was there when the «v90» revolution hit 56k modems, and when iiNet brought me into the exciting world of ADSL broadband. For the past few years, with my main residence being in Las Vegas, Nevada, my subscription to iiNet has been limited to email service; however, as I am shifting back to Perth next year, there’s no one else I would consider contacting to fix me up with net access.
Why, you might ask, am I so loyal to a company that has become, let’s face it — something of a monster? The answer is, very simply: some companies got big by doing things right and looking after their customers. Sure, in close to two decades with iiNet there have been outages, and configuration hiccups, and controversy about download limits and things, but I always felt listened to by management and staff willing to consider my points and help me resolve my problems. I remember when iiNet was first introducing their broadband plans, Michael Malone was discussing ideas on the Usenet group iinet. general (of which I was a regular denizen at the time) and many customers were upset about the download quotas — fixed at a certain amount per month. I suggested some extra quota for off-​peak downloads and Michael actually listened and put this plan into effect.
In 2004, during my first degree, one in Journalism at Curtin University, I needed someone to interview for an assignment/​news story for the university paper about an Internet-​related issue. I hadn’t been active on iinet. general in many years, but I emailed MM and said «You probably don’t remember me, but I have this assignment at university and could you help out by answering a few questions?» Barely an hour later I had an email response saying that of course he remembered me and he would be glad to help. iiNet is more than a corporate monolith which has grown to dominate much of Australia’s Internet market — it’s a company reaping the justly deserved rewards of forward thinking management and staff — of people like Michael Malone who seek to engage with and give back to their user-​base and community.
If you want quality internet, quality service, and a company that’s always going to be in the vanguard as Australia heads toward new and better internet technology — there’s simply no better option than iiNet. I hope to enjoy a strong relationship with them for many years to come.

When I don’t want to have to worry about the reliability (whether it be downtime or network congestion) of an Internet connection, I recommend iiNet.
