My first visit to lucky chans was great but the second visit was average, we were off to a fringe show and came in an hour and a half earlier to have dinner. We ordered straight away and it took over 50minutes for any food to be served to us while we sat next to a table that ordered after us and were constantly eating and reordering food. When the food finally came out we only had 10 minutes to eat before we had to leave for the show and we were starving, the street prawns, popcorn chicken and pad thai were great but the gluggy bunch of noodles in the cheeky ramen was a let down.

Finally got to try lucky chans and was so happy I did! We had the pork baos, the beef dumplings and the satay pork stir fry. While the food wasn’t perfect everything was still really tasty. The décor or the restaurant is really funky but it’s pretty small so definitely get down early on busy nights!

I’ve been here a few times for different things — from Sunday rooftop cocktails and a few fried pigs ears to a Friday night ramen dinner. The space is super cool — you have to pass a false launderette entrance to get through to their insane three floor fit-out. It’s definitely a funky space with lots going on. Most of the stars here go to the cocktails — which are pretty dope. I especially liked their Raisin’ the Monk and their supa-fine Japanese whiskey collection. But you would expect that from the sibling bar to The Classroom. The ramen, however, was massively disappointing. It was super oily and the flavour wasn’t great. My date ordered a different ramen — and it was the same. I still recommend this place for a drink or ten, with some ok snacks, but there are plenty more value-for-money places in Northbridge, and nearby Chinatown, for dinner.

Came again after a night out and again very pleased that the place is open so late. The food was on point again, the beef ribs were frikken fantastic. And a larger portion size than my previous visit. However the only thing I didn’t like was the fact they won’t let you take your leftovers. We had over ordered and unfortunately had to leave it. Kind of ridiculous.

Went here a few weeks ago for dinner with some friends. Have always wanted to go here and I wasn’t disappointed. After saying I haven’t had a good bao bun yet my friend said I’d love the ones from here and he was correct. I only had 2 chicken bao buns(could’ve easily have eaten 3) which were pretty decent in size and the bao itself was light and fluffy and the crunch of the chicken and the sauce was just on point. I now know where to go in Perth for a decent bao bun — I know that there are a few out there now but this still remains my choice for now ;) Also had a little try of the«cheeky ramen» which had a good spicy flavour too.

This place is so great! Located in the trendy suburb of Northbridge, Lucky Chan’s exterior is of a dingy looking laundrette, but head inside and you’ll discover a dive bar-esque Japanese restaurant. I love love love everything about the interior — it’s dark, moody but cosy and fun. You can sit at the bar but we opted for a side table close to the kitchen, where you can easily watch the chefs whip up your lunch. On the roof you will find endless polaroids of previous customers proudly showing off their empty bowls — the reward for finishing the Godzilla Bowl of ramen. We started with some prawn crackers covered in curry salt — they were sooooo salty but so delicious and at only $ 2 for a big bowl, was an absolute bargain. You simply must get some. For mains I went with the Cheeky Ramen(pork with spicy red miso, broccolini and sweet tomato) while my friend went for the Karaage Kid(karaage chicken, shiitake, 62 degree egg and nori.) Mine was VERY spicy but absolutely delicious and was the perfect size! I often end up drowning in ramen and am left in the foetal position on the floor a half hour after I’ve finished eating — but not this time. Bravo Lucky Chan! Beers are a mix of local Australian and Japanese but cocktails and sake are also available. But the coolest thing about Lucky Chan’s? It is a one of few crowd-funded restaurants — check their website to make your own contribution!

Lychee Mojito Bubble Tea! You had me at hello!!! That is the reason I keep going back to Lucky Chan’s. We started our girls from work night out at Lucky Chan’s with the chicken bao, prawn dumplings and chicken wings. We could have joyfully kept going at Lucky Chan’s and not moves another inch all night. But that was not the point of the evening. Never have I had a bad food experience here. The service has always been fine. And for people to be willing to line up out the door you know you are onto a winner. After visiting a few times I have now decided that there are only 2 of the 3 levels I like to be seated in, the lower or the roof. Last night we had the misfortune of having to sit on level 2. It has been a run of hot days, so we were really disappointed with the stuffiness and insufficient air conditioning on level 2. I love the quirky entrance that gives no impression of what lays inside and the comment from a couple of the girls was that they would have walked straight past if they had been looking for a restaurant. I’m pretty sure they’d be happy to head back to for another go at the rest of the menu! Thanks LC for an awesome start to a lovely night out!

Wow what a cool little place! The line outside just proves how good the food is(and their mojito bubble tea!). We had chicken bao, chicken wings and seafood gyoza. My favourite had to be the bao! I’ll definitely be going back but hopefully get to sit up on the roof next time as it’s too warm indoors on a summer night!

I love the roof top at Lucky Chan’s! I love the food and I love the drinks! What a fabulous place! Because of the 3 story situation, service can be a little slow but the staff are friendly and I’ve never had a bad experience! The boa are my favourite!

I finally made it to Lucky Chan’s after seeing and hearing about so many other friends visiting. I have to say I was pretty impressed with my choice of ramen whilst dining there before a show at the State Theatre. As others have described, Lucky Chan’s fit out follows the old wash house/laundry theme. I only dined in the downstairs area which was a long narrow room with tables down one side and a long bar on the other. Sitting at the bar meant we had easy access to ordering more wine(win!) and could check out all the cool trinkets and decorations adorning the walls. I ordered the prawn crackers and Japanese curry salt mayo(deeelicious) and then finished with a hearty bowl of the Karage Kid Ramen. This was certainly enough food and we didn’t need to order or share anymore than this. The Karage Kid featured Karage chicken, a 62 degree egg(yum) and shitakke noodles. I really enjoyed the meal. It was super tasty as far as ramen goes. Even on a Wednesday night the place was busy with people lining up to get in for dinner. It’s a great spot for a cheap meal and a few wines out in Northbridge.

It a very trendy, very cool spot. The food is decently priced and the serving is plenty! I came here late on a Friday night and the place was far from closing it’s doors. There was music, laughing and plenty of slurping of noodles. The menu has something for everyone. The bao are delicious and the ramen is great too. Love the wooden spoon that comes with it more than anything. Who is Lucky Chan? Who know’s but he’s picked a very good spot to serve some great dishes. Desserts were a little of a let down. Nothing special and very simple. Flavours seemed all a little too creamy and lacked a lot of structure and texture. The upper floor looks like a great function space, and then you walk up another level and WOW! Gorgeous for a summer night and so well utilised it’s a winner in my books!

Headed here on a busy Saturday night before a gig to grab a quick bite to eat. We were very lucky to snag a table with about 15 people waiting out on the sidewalk. The waitress was super friendly and did a great job at making recommendations. We started with the Duck Dumplings with coconut curry sauce and Lucky Chan’s famous bubble tea cocktail, which did not disappoint. Followed by the Karaage Kid Ramen and the Pulled chicken and prawn noodles, we could of shared one as the portion sizes were very large. All in all I would recommend checking this place out, it’s very trendy, great food and they were pumping an excellent variety of 90s tunes

I’m picking up what Lucky Chan is putting down. Especially those amazing duck dumplings and scrumptious baos. Everything on their menu is a winner. The ramen is overflowing with goodness and it’s a very hefty portion. Two could easily share one bowl. The ramen packs a spicy punch, which I love. All the more reason to quench your thirst with something from their extensive drink menu. I’ll abso-freaking-lutely be back.

Lucky Chan stands out. From the bright red colours and huge pop art, you’d find it hard not to be attracted or at least a little bit curious about it. Upon entering the premise, I was greeted with the playful quirkiness of washing machines packed with laundry before being greeted by an energetic and friendly waiter. The main eating area isn’t particularly large however there are 3 floors in case times get busy. One gripe that I have however is that the tables have been positioned in a way that it’s rather difficult to enter/exit the seats that are against the wall. I ordered the cheeky ramen with a side of spiced tamarind chicken wings. I was given a choice of spiciness for the ramen from levels 1−10…was feeling kind of adventurous so opted for 10. The chicken wings were only satisfactory in all honesty as the meat itself was rather lacking in taste. The seasoning itself was ok but it certainly looked tastier than what it actually was. The entrée comes with 4 Big pieces of chicken. The ramen noodles was a decent serving however I was left rather underwhelmed by the lack of flavour. Even though I ordered the spiciness level of 10, it was quite mild compared to what I was expecting. With an impressive bar, unique décor and darkened lighting, Lucky Chan felt like it’s suited more for its casual social atmosphere than for its culinary offerings.

Fantastic venue, great attention to detail. Cocktails are delicious, the food is fantastic, good portions and very well priced! Everything we ordered from share plates to the ramen noodles was delicious, I can’t wait to go back to try more of what is on the menu! Special shout out to the bao buns which were the highlight of our dining experience and the super hot chicken wings!

I was a donator in the Lucky Chan’s crowd-funding campaign(I have a stair!), and am a big fan of the work that the Classroom Bar and Cocktail Gastronomy do, so I was super keen to hit Lucky Chan’s when it opened. The fit-out is grungey-Asian-cool, with tables spread across three floors. We got the middle floor, which is definitely the poor cousin of both the bottom floor with views of the bar, and top floor with it’s rooftop cool, wall of fame and bar. I had two free ramen as part of my crowd-funding pledge, but needed a few entrees in my life. The miso-lamb bao had the perfect fluffy white mantou bun, the filling meaty and flavoursome with the umami miso perfectly balanced with it’s pickled extras. It’s worth noting, they’re also a fairly large bao — given I’m not the hugest eater in the world, you’d probably only need 4 or so to have a full meal. They have 3 varieties on the menu. The seafood dumplings were tiny morsels of deliciousness — the seafood flavour strong, so maybe avoid if you’re not the biggest fan of fishy things, the black pastry from the squid ink a fun little visual addition. They were well formed and easy to eat — unlike some dumplings that fall apart when the pastry sticks to your chop-stick and the filling falls out on the table on the way to your plate. The entrees are definitely the stand-outs For ramen, we tried the signature«Danny Ramen» with pork mince and buttered corn and the Shoyu with chicken and a 62 degree egg. The Shoyu was better — the broth was somehow tastier, the combination of textures and flavours more harmonious. We chose to not ramp the heat level up, for our first time(and we will be back), we wanted to just enjoy the base taste, but I love a chilli kick and can see this will definitely improve the ramen. Dessert wise, the options are small but fun. Jackfruit wontons with red rice pudding and coconut ice cream was the stand-out for me. But needs to be eaten quickly for the wontons to stay crispy. The coconut ice cream tasted more coconut flavoured ice cream, rather than ice cream made with coconut cream, but this didn’t detract from the dish at all. Just an observation. The chocolate cake was dense and too much for the end of what turned out to be a filling meal — but that was our fault. The mousse and sorbet were very welcome additions to freshen up the denseness. Drinks-wise, there’s a few off-centre beers and wine and some fun and different cocktails — the soy caramel old fashioned was too sweet for an old fashioned drinker, but quite a quirky standalone cocktail. But overall, great atmosphere, great fit-out, decent food. Will definitely be heading back, hopefully walking over my stair to the upstairs bar next time!

Best meal in a Laundry Ever! So we headed on down here a while back but I never got around to writing about the experience so here goes. I actually pledged for this on Pozible late last year and totally forgot about my pre paid meal. Actually getting this turned out to be an adventure(not the good kind) but that is a different story. We were told no bookings here, even if you already paid for your meal months in advance so there we were, waiting in line outside a laundry, or so it looked to all the amused onlookers walking by shaking their heads wondering why there was people all dressed up to go wash their clothes. My pledge entitled us to 2 ramen dishes, 2 cocktails and a shared desert. Our friend had to pay for his own on the night but had no complaints. We went with the crispy pig ears and chicken wings to start between us. These dishes are both definite winners and come highly recommended. Amongst us for mains we ordered the Shoyu Ramen(chicken), Danny Ramen(minced pork), Charsui Pork with king prawns with a side of mushrooms(these were also delicious) and we finished this off with a dessert selection of chocolate cake with raspberry sorbet. All of the dishes were pretty much spot on with the entrees and mains being standouts. The ramen was okay but we have had better at other establishments around Perth. For drinks we tried the Lychee Mojito Bubble Tea(very refreshing), Espresso martini(always a favourite) and the Soy Caramel Old Fashioned(strong as expected). Overall it was a decent experience but there was a few issues with claiming the pledge, made to waiting outside whilst other people were brought in past us and being initially put on a table for 2 even though there was three of us(considering we had already paid for our meal). Food and drinks were on point in general and with three levels on offer with even roof top drinks and dining this place shows a lot of promise but it looks like they were still ironing out a few kinks. Could be back in future once the hype has settled a little to avoid lining up so long outside a laundry.

I finally got around to checking Lucky Chan’s out on the weekend. It’s a great use of space, with the tiny old laundry being turned into a three-story bar and restaurant. It’s a bar more than anything else, a bar that sells great food, but you have to order food to order a drink here. We headed there for lunch and it wasn’t too busy, which was great. We snagged a table on the top balcony level, though our table was undercover. The drinks list was pretty impressive, but I was feeling under the weather and I was driving, so I just had a juice. My friend who was pregnant got a lychee bubble-tea, which I instantly regretted not getting after seeing hers. We started with some prawn crackers, dusted in hot spices and served with aioli. These are great, so you need 1 bowl per two people. I had the chicken ramen which was only ok. The real star of the show was the chicken bao — deep-fried battered chicken in a light cloud-like bun with lots of spicy social sauce. A great place to head for drinks with friends and get some food while you’re at it.

Really impressed with Lucky Chan’s. Didn’t even realise they had a rooftop but it’s really cool. Cocktails were original and tasty with nice presentation. The beef dumplings were incredible! And the chicken bao chicka wow(great name) was so yummy a few of us ordered seconds. My friends got the prawn dumplings, lamb bao chicka wow and pork salad and everyone was happy. The ramen looked and smelled tasty and also seemed to please. Service was good, though one of the wait staff seemed to know little about the dishes. Will be back.

The fit out is great! Real cool ambience how they have it setup with the«false front» and the«back room». You don’t feel like you are in a restaurant in Perth. It’s very urban and low light. It’s tight tables so good opportunity to make some friends, we did! I like the two upstairs levels and I’m excited to try them out sometime. I also like the windows into the kitchen where you can see what looks to be full 140 liter stock pots on massive burners(30cm hole for the flame) and the chefs working. Four of us were there from 12:30 — 2:00 am after comedy night at the Brisbane. Our vegetarian friend had the umami ramen(vegetarian) which we all loved especially her! My gf and I had the tonkatso ramen Godzilla size with 2 extra eggs and extra noodles and another friend has the Danny special. I thought the Danny special was especially tasty! The tonkatso ramen was rich and creamy. They have heat from a scale of 1 – 20 and I ordered the 12 for mine. Either I’m desensitized to chili or it wasn’t that hot but I didn’t taste any heat in it. If you like chilli I recommend you go much harder. A chilli head friend says that he finds the 20 mild and so they add special hot sauce for him. After I let the waiter know that it wasn’t that hot he very kindly added a few drops of daves 2am. That turned it up! I’d like to see some surimi in the ramen because it’s fun(the white and pink spiral things) We had the whitebait and lotus seeds with the wasabi mayo and we tore through that in no time. It was a rush between friends to get as much goodness of that as we could! We didn’t try the cocktails as we were trying to wind down(menu looked delicious though) so we had sake, came out nice and warm with little cups. It was a nice addition. The hostess/server recommended well. The things they can work on is communication between staff. One server seemed to be doing fine but another server would undermine her and almost verify what she did while apologizing. She did catch her up on one thing which was availability of sunflower seeds which was corrected pro gratis.(First server said they had none, second said they might and checked). They didn’t write down the order and items had to be reordered a couple times to get them. My gf was a server/hostess before grad school and was a bit irritated at having to follow up and repeat orders. So suggestion is they either digitally or paper take down orders. Another is availability of items on the menu. Even with the reduced night menu, they were out of bao again(like the noodle markets). I think the bao one is one of their more solid options and was disappointing not to have that. I didn’t see the homemade Kim chi bao on the menu that they had at the Chinese New Year festival and I’m hoping that makes a comeback. There was something else on the menu they didn’t have that we ordered as well. Oh well. Overall I was very happy with the experience and I’ll be back especially for late night feeds. It may supplant our usual spots since decent healthy dining in perth shuts down at 8 – 9 pm and after late night touch rugby or yoga I need something of substance!
