Really nice little place to sit and relax, it’s set off the main road so no terrible traffic noise, and has big open windows you can sit in. Quiet music playing makes for a relaxed atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable and coffee is great. Quite an extensive menu for the size of the shop, all day breakfasts on offer and they cater well for gf /v.

This is one of those times I feel a bit led astray by Unilocal.Everything I had was ok but none of it was great and it definitely isn’t worth recommending. My latte tasted burned(think Starbucks) and my sandwich was nothing to write home about. The biggest positives were the staff, who were super friendly, and the atmosphere, which was lovely, but that is not enough to compensate for mediocre food and coffee. Couple that with a 1.5% charge for using any Visa card(they don’t accept Amex) and I’ll pass on a return visit.

I fell in love with Vargabar as soon as I walked in. Sitting on a quiet little corner just off the main King Street business of Newtown, it’s a quiet, humble, peaceful little place with lovely staff, a delicious menu and brilliant coffee! The atmosphere was happy, comforting and welcoming. Absolutely everything you want in a café. My almond milk latte was made to perfection(so I had another) and the veggie ‘hippie breakfast’ was cooked and served with so much love. I am a big fan, and will keep going back!

Coffee was great, the service was good and there is so many different choices for breakfast/brunch!

Very good brunch. Baked eggs with mushrooms, spinach and parmesan with pear relish and tortillas was fantastic and delicious and the sweet potato roasti with portobellos, asparagus and poached eggs was good. Good flat whites too. The server was new and inexperienced, but diligent, earnest and sweet.

Easily the best brunch spot in Newtown… And that’s not just because Newtown is completely lacking in the brunch scene, it’s because Vargabar is absolutely adorable and damn good! Right off King Street, yet tucked away into darling Wilson Street, Vargabar is an «open-air» style place that’s all about sustainable food and delicious coffee. They roast their own beans, known as «The Marilyn,» which have picked up some street cred in the coffee world. Their caps are therefore great, and they also have delicious frappes and frozen specialty drinks that they serve out of, what else, mason jars. I’ve only ever had the pan baked eggs, which while a bit expensive, were undeniably fresh and a refreshing flavour combination: a tortilla covered in melted cheese, mushrooms, mango chutney, cheese, and more, it was a filling breakfast that you definitely didn’t walk away feeling guilty about. They also have wi-fi, which is fantastic, making it not only the best brunch spot, but in my opinion, the best computer hangout spot, in Newie.

Varga Bar, I am a little bit in love with you. It’s been over a fortnight since I last stepped inside you(… bit awkward) and I can’t stop thinking about that peach maple macadamia smoothie you gave me. Seriously, I’m obsessed. I need it. I gotta have it. I can barely stand the fact that I actually live two states away. I wake up every morning and I cry because I can’t be with you. Okay, I may be exaggerating, but it’s only slightly, and the best thing about your drinks menu is that my delicious smoothie wasn’t nearly the only tempting thing on it. The menu was as long as my arm(again a slight exaggeration, but literally? Half my arm, easily) and I was tormented with indecision before finally settling on the peach maple macadamia smoothie(just typing those four words hurts my heart). But I could have easily chosen the banana walnut chai smoothie instead, or maybe the iced 50s refresher with cucumber and star anise, or the raspberry coconut smoothie, or the muddled limes, mint, brown sugar and cranberry special… you get the picture. The breakfast menu was pretty great, too, but it wasn’t what brought me back here twice on the same day. Full props to that delicious drinks menu, and to the space in my heart that was immediately reserved forever for the peach maple macadamia smoothie. See you again, smoothie… in this life, or the next.

For many years I have walked straight pass Varga Bar Espresso not thinking anything of it. For the last two days I have had a coffee which by all count was perfect. Looking forward to stopping for a meal next time.

A brilliant little place just off King Street. Great coffee, terrific food, wonderful staff and a cool vibe. There are a lot of spots to choose from in Newtown, this is probably my favourite.

This is the kind of café that lends itself to lingering. If I could, I’d like to place an order for a bottomless cup of coffee and just sit around sipping and reading newspapers and magazines, pausing every now and then to stop for an organic, chemical-free, free-range nibble. Okay, let me tell you about the coffee. It’s fair trade. It’s organic. It’s roasted to perfection. And it’s my weakness. Morgan’s handcrafted coffee is only comparable to their grass-fed Angus burger with coffee-smoked chilli sauce. Enough said?

Was introduced to Varga Bar by a friend who worked there. It’s off King Street so away from the passing parade thankfully. The sun hits it in the morning, but by the afternoon its kind of cold. There are stools to eat on the footpath, and the actual café is quite small, with little booths and tables perched upon tables. Coffee is great, and if you are taking it away you can get it from a little window near the coffee machine without going in and getting under the feet of the wait staff. Baked eggs for breakfast, the toast is more like a damper roll which is yum. There is a version of breakfast served with berocca for the day after the night before. Burgers, salads, wraps and pasta for lunch. There is even a special afternoon tea menu with things like melts and coffee + cake/muffin/scone specials. They use organic eggs!

This corner café is hidden just behind King St. It offers, in my humble opinion, one of the best made coffees in Newtown. You could even go as far as saying I’m an addict for their coffee. But that’s not the only thing that brings me back here. It’s the breakky. I’ve had the Pesto Scrambled Eggs twice already just because it’s the bomb(literally the taste explodes in my mouth!). The Pancakes with blueberry maple sauce and ice cream with bacon was just as exciting. What’s more, it’s all organic. If you don’t have enough time to dine in and enjoy the nostalgic jazz playing in the background, and hot pin ups plastered on the wall, grab yourself a delicious homemade muffin like the banana and chocolate, raspberry and more that they conjure up.

Varga Bar is a busy little corner café just off King St. The café has a great vibe(a little similar to that of Glebe’s Badde Manors) and is consequently extremely popular — lining up on the weekend isn’t uncommon, nor is squatting on milk crates out the front until a table becomes available. Which it may not. Despite a bunch of stuff-ups, I still had a pretty good experience at Varga Bar. It took a while for our order to be taken(they were extremely busy), then giving our order was a process in itself(the waiter couldn’t hear us over the noise of the café and mixed up our order three times) and when the food arrived my meal came ten minutes before my friend’s, the eggs were slightly over-cooked and the ‘rosti’ was, for want of a better word, mush. When my friend’s food did arrive, his ‘bacon and eggs’ came sans bacon. Despite this initial disappointment, the food was actually quite tasty and the somewhat awkward staff redeemed themselves, one of the waiters taking responsibility and shouting us a cake for the troubles. The coffee was alright(read average), but it seems that the cold drinks are worth returning for — we got a complimentary sample of their peach, maple and macadamia smoothie which was pretty good, the lychee, apple & mint special sounded like the perfect summer tipple and their milkshakes are classic, «thick, served in a big ass tin». Free wifi means that their rounded bench is lined with laptops as Newtowners work along to the sweet rock’n’roll beats. I had high expectations that Varga Bar didn’t quite meet, but I was somehow surprisingly impressed none the less. Varga Bar, you charmed me.

It doesn’t matter that Varga Bar is set back a little from the hustle and bustle of King Street in Newtown. It still attracts a huddle of loyal clients, and is a great place to catch up on local gossip whilst enjoying a coffee. The coffee bean of choice is Morgans, which is delicious and expertly frothed by the charming baristas. They have a great range of homemade muffins which change in flavour frequently — blueberry and chocolate was flavour of the day when I last visited, or for a savoury fix, they offered pear chutney and brie. It’s not just the muffins that our homemade. In fact, everything sold is made in-house, so you can be assured of its organic credentials and extra-fresh taste. Their lunch menu offers everything from burgers, pasta and salads to wraps and sandwiches — you are well and truly spoilt for choice. I chose a chicken, paprika and cheese quesadilla — delicious by itself, but served with a lovely fresh rocket salad with homemade salsa and sour cream. It’s impressive and almost unbelievable that everything on the menu is homemade, but it is, and the chef holds classes to prove it! Definitely worth a try.

«Flavours of Sustainability» that’s what Dan the manager told me was their catchphrase. And I’m sure they live up to it. There is always something interesting going on between these walls. whether it’s as plain and simple as chocolate pecan muffin, to a more extravagent like a nutritional talk n taste session with the chef of Miranda Kerr, chef Kate. The coffee is Morgans a quality free trade brand. Although all the food is organic the prices are kept to a minimum — so you’re not only supporting Varga Bar eating here you are also helping a very important industry. The atmosphere is fun and fanfair, the windows open up allowing for seats allow the eves on pillows, quite a nice effect on a Sunday afternoon. It’s neatly tucked in a corner just half a block away from the King Street hustle so you can be a little relaxed here.
