Big loss for the Bank hotel the Sumalee is now at 171 Glebe Pt Rd. The dishes are simply some of the best Thai food I have had anywhere. The flavours devine with lots of spice and great fresh ingredients. Try the whole snapper with tamarid sauce and my most loved chicken with cashew and chili jam. Will be back again and again and again.

Let me tell you, this«Meh. I’ve experienced better» is not from going Sumalee Thai for the first time, it comes from going to Sumalee Thai many times and having sensational food, service and time — tonight was a shocker! Firstly, can can an establishment of this size not have eftpos over the bar?!? Then, the Duck Rolls arrived stone-motherless-cooled, not once but twice. To their credit they gave our money back and gave us a third attempt free —(which was fabulous). Also, they made a order twice on different orders because they could not do split orders — WTF! Then, we had two numbers on our table, and we had to remind them after 40 minutes of the missing dishes from one of the orders. Then, I don’t know how many times we had to ask for the rice we ordered. On the second occasion they did bring our rice, it was after they took the original empty place away and brought it back in the same plate. Sumalee Thai is a wonderful spot on King Street and The Bank is wonderful location — but tonight was down right disappointing.

Thai food on King Street is bar far the most prolific cuisine represented, making the thai fare from the bank seem ridiculously overpriced. But this food is exceptional, with oversized portions designed to share, and exceptional flavours and ingredient combos that are lots more exciting than the usual fare. There is a bar next to the restaurant, giving the option to buy drinks and wine at the same prices as the rest of the pub. This restaurant can be busy any night of the week, so either arrive early or book ahead. I f you query how spicy the ribs smothered in curry paste are, don’t believe a word the wait staff say. They are eye wateringly hot but worth every painful bite, and even better cold the next day.
