There’s a small record shop just next door to Correlli’s that has a great range of smaller, more alternative CD’s, records and music paraphernalia.
Occasionally they’ll have live bands in store playing their music, you can here it from all the way down the street.
I recall I walked into Repressed Records one afternoon and perused their selection, I came across Tin Machine on Vinyl. A band that David Bowie appeared in back in the late eighties.
I didn’t buy it, something I regret to this day, not frequently, but occasionally, when the memory is stirred, I think to myself, ‘probably should have bought that.‘
For no other reason than the fact that I love Bowie, whether Tin Machine are any good, I could not say, but just to know that David was involved would earn it a place in my collection.

Are there any people left still buying hard copy music these days? Well, apparently yes and Repressed Records is a whole store dedicated to such. It has been over 10 years since I stepped foot into a real music store, but once inside it is hard to go wrong and it’s impossible to get lost, even for a novice like me. Records to your right, CDs straight ahead, T-​shirts and other paraphernalia to your left. Everything is easily laid out in alphabetical or genre order. The Ramones, The Smiths, The Beatles and The Clash are just a few of the bands that live inside these walls. It would be a shame not to buy a part of history as it still stands, because who knows how long stores like these will last. Get it while it’s hot!

Now I always feel that these shops have men-​only subliminally etched into the eves, but I’m afraid I’m wrong in this case. They have a great range of T-​shirts and Chris is a bit of a music legend and will be able to help you find what it is you are after. There is an eccletic mix of music available and they also offer a T-​shirt printing service — so for example if you like the cover of the new record you bought that much you can have it strewn onto a t-​shirt here at Repressed Records. As the name suggests you can find vinyl amongst the stock but also CD’s. It’s interior is wooden which gives an interesting effect — the shop is well laid out alphabetically and in easy to decifer categories.

I’ve walked past repressed records quite a few times but never went in until a few days ago. Its one of the smaller record shops in Sydney but I was happy to find some great albums in there. Its mostly a rock and alternate dominated shelf section, but the small but modest hip hop section was enough to open my eyes to a few artists I didn’t know and a few albums I’d been searching for.
The store also has a tee-​shirt shop at the back, that sell lots of cool plain coloured ‘as colour’ brand tees, that can be heat pressed with artwork on display in folders and also have a few gift type goods in the display cabinets like wallets and watches. I liked the colourful passport wallets the best.
A nice surprise.
