Second visit and still impressed by innovative food and knowledgeable service. One of the highlights of coming to Newcastle for work is to have dinner here. No one is phased that I am on my own. Good wine by the glass as well.

Nice ambience, cool vibe. Breakfast menu has a French slant, the Sardines dish is a nice change from the norm and the Croque Madame was great. Check it out, a nice spot just back from the beach.

Great food. Good coffee. Thank goodness we have our Le Petit Deux.

My mother and I ducked in one afternoon and decided to try a dessert. We ordered the apple tarte tartin. We noticed that it was taking rather longer than anticipated — because the entire portion was made completely from scratch. And it was heavenly. It was amazing and I don’t think tarte tartin can get any better than that. I’m looking for to trying out their lunch — especially their plate of the day special, which varies each day of the week.

Lunch at Le Petit Deux was an unexpected venture, as most of the best lunches are. This is the more casual little sister, or so I am told, to Newcastle chef Leslsey Taylor’s Restaurant Deux. The waitstaff are friendly and don’t seem to mind when one of our group asks for the menu(mostly in french) to be translated in parts. There’s a great lunch deal(meal of the day and a glass of wine for $ 19.90. On this day it was boeuf bourguignon) but we all opt for meals of the main menu. My choux pastry gnocchi was, thankfully, a reasonably small serving. This rich and creamy creation baked in a cheesy bechamel sauce was ample to appreciate the flavours. My partner’s duck confit is equally perfect and cooked to that ‘melt in your mouth’ perfection. They only do breakfast and lunch at this stage and while we were there it was bustling. A sign that they must be doing something right!
