For the most part, I appreciate the fact that Ali Baba seems to be of a higher standard to most other kebab shops. With their expansive range in ingredients, you get a sense that they are trying to separate themselves from being a typical greasy kebab shop. They offer a wider selection of fillings and many of it exotic and authentically Lebanese. On the other hand, although it’s not the healthiest, don’t you just crave a good olé greasy kebab? I know I do. I had trouble deciding on the kebab last time I was here, because there were just way to many options. Good for some, difficult for me. All I wanted was a Doner kebab with lettuce, onion, tomato, cheese and BBQ sauce. I looked up on the menu board trying to find ‘Doner Kebab’, but it wasn’t there! Ah! The lovely staff on the other side of the counter assured me lambs pretty much the same thing and I should just get that. So I did. Another thing I found a little different, is they grill the wrap and fillings open and then fold it closed afterwards. I prefer having my kebab all wrapped up and toasted to give it that crunch. Just a minor annoyance, but toasted kebabs are my preference. I commend Ali Baba for having a wider range in their menu to suit different people, but personally I still prefer my greasy doner kebabs, which we all love to hate. It’s just so good, its bad!!!

We all know that Kebab shops are all kebab shops, they serve kebabs, turkish delights and baklavas on the side. Everything is like the other. Well, Ali Baba have changed their menu, and I’m not too sure if it’s a franchise thing or the owner who owns the franchise can change things about the menu, listen, I don’t know. But they changed it, and I like it. They have different options now, you don’t get the usual kebab. You can order the meat with tumeric rice and salads and(yes they have a range of salads) breads. In fact I just did the other day, and today. And they have a hommus dip to die for. It’s got a zing to it, best I’ve ever tasted. It’s about $ 13.70 for a plate with sliced or diced chicken/lamb, 2 salads, 2 dips, bread and tumeric rice. Good value, 2 people can eat that place if you really wanted to. In short, I like the fact that they have made some sort of attempt to differentiate themselves from the usual mainstream kebab shop with the new range of salads and whatnot. I’m definetely going to be back there to try the other interesting combinations in the near future.
