I’m a pie fan! Give the Jack Daniels Pie a try. And if you are brave, you can try their chilli cheese fries. But only when you are really hungry or if you have a massive hang-over. Otherwise, you’ll quickly regret it. Good place for a quick bite or take away. You’ll be disappointed with the cleanliness of the tables if you are eating there. But if you don’t mind a bit of ‘down-and-durty’ like me, you’ll be okay. I’m curious to try the other pie varieties. Will be coming back for more.

The shop is tucked away in an industrial district so finding it for us was by pure chance. The selection is expansive with a pie to please most pie lovers. Our selection we tried all had highlights, namely the texture and ‘meatiness’ of each pie. Meaning that you could decipher nice chunks of beef in each. The pastry could have been a little crispier as the price point should be ripping out perfectly cooked pies. Overall a really nice pie and will be back if I’m in the area. Have they moved our opened another shop? I got one of the Jack Daniels pies the other day from their store across from Coorparoo train station. It has REKT me for every other pie shop! There was a Rib on top! A class of its own. No doubt. Will be a cult following.

It was my family’s first time trying an Australian meat pie. It was described to me as the equivalent of the American chicken pot pie. I kept thinking of the froze Marie Calendar salty chicken pot pie you can get at Costco. I was surprised by how good the pies were. We got about 16 pies for the 13 of us. We got to try all the flavors they had that day. The meat was tender and the sauce inside each had its own flavor. I thought they would all taste the same and would all blend together. It was the opposite. The crust was not too thick, but it wasn’t so delicate where everything would break apart when you take the first bite. You really had to use a fork to eat these pies. My mom liked it so much, she ended up going back to get another pie with the mashed peas and potatoes. After trying that one, I think we should have gotten more of the pies done up like that. haha The peas were a sweet fresh bit to take along with the creamy potatoes and meat. Overall, the pies were not super heavy, but were still filling enough. I could eat this for lunch every day.

Always go here to get fresh bread, — a healthier alternative than supermarket packaged breads. Great food for good value. Desserts are well made and staff are always helpful.

What I love about Piefection — is that it is different… I have eaten a lot of pies in my quest for the best pies and if I am going to eat a pie, then it is going to be one of Matt Roman’s pies. He has taken the old meat and pastry and made it into something else, a tasty little morsel! The range is fantastic, there is something for everyone… I love the honey Kabana sausage roll, not to mention the Jack Daniels and BBQ pork(my absolute favourite). I have tried quiet a few different options but always find myself coming back to my favourite. Make sure you get in early as the good pies sell out quick and don’t forget the lunch special.

Having read all of the glowing reviews on Urbanspoon, I was really excited to try Piefection. Alas, it was a bit of a downer. Perhaps they were having an off day because few of the truly interesting pies were on offer. We did have a butter chicken pie and the jack daniels bbq, both of which were good in concept with good pastry, but the filling was dry… definitely more sauce required. The sausage roll(bratwurst version) was pretty awful — grisly, livery, dry. My child who normally eats anything sausage related declared«ick» after a few bites, and we scoffed. We then tasted it and couldn’t help but agree. The chicken and vegetable mornay pie and chicken and wild mushroom pies were good but nearly indiscernible. I was hoping for some lovely variety of local mushrooms in the mix and there was maybe one visible button mushroom piece in the entire pie. Next, what on earth did they do to their mushy peas? I suspect they put too much baking soda in the boil(a trick to get things mushier quicker) as they had a really bitter, unpleasant aftertaste. The mashed potatoes were excellent, but the peas really just were horrible. This hasn’t factored into my review, but the pie shop temperature was also well over 100 degrees(it was a hot day outside, but still — who wants to eat or serve hot pies inside an oven??). No fan, no air and the poor folks working there looked like they might keel over from the heat. I know it’s typical for a pie shop but this was too much. I can’t imagine it’s legal to allow your employees to suffer like that. And finally, we drove the distance to this place from our Eastern Suburbs location, only to discover upon arrival that the shop has an unadvertised second location in Coorparoo. Not on their website, not on Urbanspoon… we remembered passing a sign at some point in our journeys around town and were dismayed when it seemed to take far longer than expected. PUT A NOTEWITHTHENEWADDRESSONYOURWEBSITE, FOLKS! So, the search for the best pie in Queensland will have to continue. Piefection was not perfection for us.

This pie was pretty good, until I found a giant black hair in it. Hopefully this was a one time thing, but I don’t think I’ll be back to check it out again.

The search for the perfect pie is a continuous struggle for most Australian men. Whether it be the local bakery, café, even petrol station, it’s always worth knowing where where the pies are good, and where they are just average. Piefection has just about solved these problems. There’s a huge range to choose from, but not the pie flavours we are used to. Lamb shanks, butter chicken, Jack Daniels; they all find their way into a pie, as well as the genuine beef or shepherd’s pie. Chef Matt Roman can be found there 7 days a week, creating new flavours as well as perfecting his current menu. Blackboard specials are often available for the customer that wants to try some of these new creations. Roman even had the privilege of having a stall at the 2011EKKA, supplying over 10000 pies over the week. Not a small effort by any means! The only problem I have with Piefection is that I felt I wasn’t getting value for money. Yes, they are delicious pie, some of the best in Brisbane. But the pies are quite small, and at over $ 5 each they are not the cheapest option.

If you love pies but are tired of the same old steak and gravy or mince pies, then Piefection is a place that you definitely want to check out. Piefection boast a wide range of gourmet pies that are made and inspired by Chef Matt Roman. Some of these pies include lamb shank and rosemary, butter chicken and even a big breaky pie. You can also have the option of ordering family sized pies or a pie box that has 4 different pies and a sausage roll. For those who have a big apatite you can get your pie with mash and pees for 2 dollars extra. For people who are serious pie fans there is a Facebook page that is update daily and where you can send in a request for a pie that you would like to see made. In addition to this all the specials are listed on the page. Piefection also does creative twists such a rabbit pie on Easter, and although this might not sound appealing to all it keeps things a little bit more interesting. Located on Logan road in Mount Gravatt Central it’s not hard to miss and is open from 7 am on week days. I for one am a regular customer and never pass up the chance to grab a Jack Daniels BBQ pork pie. The price is also not really more than any other pies with prices ranging from about $ 2.50 to 5.50 and 10.95 for meals.
