Doyles Deck & Bistro

Was meeting a friend at the café at Doyle’s, I waited for a while to be seated, they were busy, so I was patient.
A couple came in behind me and got seated before me.
Decided to try the bistro instead and got my friend to meet me there. Beautiful location, right by the water with the sun going down. The staff were young, teens to early twenties, and mostly friendly and welcoming.
I ordered the salmon, it came out on a plate with a huge pile of chips. For the price I was expecting something much better. I basically paid a fancy restaurant price for pub food. The salad came later which was not even worth eating, the dressing was sugary and the leaves wilted. They could definitely lift their game food wise. It’s a good place to sit by the water and have drinks, don’t expect too much from the menu though.

Such a fabulous location for a warm summer evening. We chose to sit outside on the deck. Which started off brilliantly warm but as soon as the sun disappeared it cooled substantially. No problem because of lovely and attentive waiter offer to turn the overhead heater on. It was just the thing!
We both chose fish if the day. Sorry can’t remember it’s name but it was like a thick white steak from New Zealand. Served grilled with a lemon on the side it was super healthy but I couldn’t help thinking it could have done with something, anything really. (A nice lemon thyme vinaigrette perhaps?). Anyway all fish orders are accompanied by chips and salad. Which were very nice.
Later in the evening staff moved the specials board around so we could see it. (would have been nice if we’d seen it before ordering.)
The food was nice, the service was attentive and the view and atmosphere exceptional.
If your after a nice, upper casual meal this is the place for you.
Oh, and if you can’t see the specials board and staff don’t mention it, ask!

Food and wine is good. Service is a bit slow. It’s easy to get a table in the deck bistro.
