It was a Tuesday morning and I was looking for a new place to have coffee and breakfast. I like to make a habit of trying new places instead of falling back on my favourites. If you’re not careful you could drive right past this quaint spot! Upon walking up the stairs, you feel like you’re in a treehouse thanks to the natural wooden furniture, and general raw finish. After taking a few steps you’re already at the counter feeling very cosy. You have a nice view of the kitchen, and the chef’s hard at work. There’s a few long tables with room to sit six, give or take one. So don’t plan on bringing your book club, or peloton here! My long black espresso was the perfect temperature to begin with, but seeing as it was in a take-away cup it didn’t last long. Wasn’t too happy that they didn’t have anything else. I believe that if you’re going to drink a long black, that it has to be in a thick ceramic cup to retain the heat. Expecting to be able to order food all day, I was disappointed to learn that they shut down the kitchen for an hour to prepare for lunch. This would have been totally okay with me if I was told when I was ordering my coffee. Yes I know it’s only an hour, but I was really excited to try their food. Instead I went to Scout on Petrie Terrace. I will definitely be back to try the food! However, not a promoter just yet, but keep up the good work :)

This place is great. Nice sunny outdoor seating, really trendy decorations and super friendly staff! Breakfast was delicious and the coffee was perfect. They serve they’re meals on paper plates with wooden cutlery which I really like. I probably could’ve relaxed on the little deck for hours if it wasn’t so windy. If you’re looking for a nice little brekky spot this place is really worth a visit.

Soon after they opened I made the mistake of clicking ‘Like’on Two Wheels & A Handlebar’s Facebook page. Day after day I have had their amazing sounding lunch options thrown in my face via my Facebook feed and had daily regret that I work in the CBD and therefore haven’t been able to sample any of them. However, they do open on Saturday’s so their food isn’t completely unattainable(unlike their neighbours, Mrs Luu’s…) Today I at finally got to try their equally delicious sounding weekend breakfast menu. Two Wheels and a Handlebar are a small setup with only a few large tables and a tiny kitchen. Their menu, headed Hungry? changes daily and today’s menu had both sweet and savoury items. The drinks on the Thirsty? menu include the usual coffee/mocha/tea options and Thai Fruit Shakes(seasonal fruit blended with ice and coconut water). I chose the Sporky(smoked pork fillet with yoghurt, dukkah, pickle, red cabbage) which usually comes with sourdough but I opted for the gluten-free bread($ 14) and my friend had the Tradie(spiced paprika potatoes with fried eggs, pork sausage and focaccia) for $ 13. The gluten-free bread is made in-house and so I assume the other bread is too. Both the coffees and meals arrived in environmentally-friendly-looking cups and plates and there is disposable bamboo cutlery available on the tables. I’m not sure what beans they use but I found my coffee(long black) to be sour but that may just be because I prefer a softer blend. My Sporky was delicious — the pork fillet was in chunks had a great smoky flavour and melded well with the red cabbage, yoghurt and dukkah. I wasn’t entirely sure how to eat it with the bread though and having weak cutlery didn’t really help. The Tradie was also excellent — the sausage was partially cut lengthways to make one big slab of sausage and worked well with the garlicky potatoes and fried eggs. I thought the size of the meals were perfect and very reasonable for the price. To get breakfast for 2 including coffees for just over $ 30 is almost unheard of these days. I would happily return to Two Wheels and hope to one day try their lunch menu!

Awesome place with delicious food, smoothies and coffee. They’re more than willing to accommodate your diet needs too(they whipped us up an excellent vegan breakfast).

The space might be tight here, and the cutlery all throw-away(smart in a tiny kitchen), but the quality of food is bold and packing punches from this tiny spot on Railway Terrace. I’d stopped in for coffee a few times before grabbing lunch here. I was dashing from one thing to another so opted for the pulled pork sandwich which for $ 9 was so large I couldn’t finish it all. Yes, $ 9. The prices here are reasonable and certainly not remotely budget breaking. There’s daily specials, posted on a black board outside the café, and generally feature healthy salads and the like. Sure, there’s plenty of coffee shops already on this strip and my allegiance belongs to another, but the food choices are few and far between and this is where Two Wheels and a Handlebar shines!

The latest café to pop up along Railway Terrace, Milton is offering up tasty, gourmet meals at budget prices! The bicycle themed café is run by Rene and Paolo — a young, fun, bubbly couple who are super passionate about all things food. My first visit was late morning on a weekday for a coffee(a black flat white: 70% dark cocoa wafers with a flat white poured on top. A must try!) and early lunch(which was the salmon, delivered fresh that morning!) Despite only being open for a couple of weeks, Rene already knew most of the locals and their regular orders. They are currently open 7 days a week. During the week it’s quick breakfasts, fresh pastries and lunch(the lunch menu changes daily and is usually $ 10 and under), and on the weekends it’s a full breakfast menu($ 8 – 14). I returned on the weekend for the delicious sounding breakfast menu and tried the Energiser(poached eggs, bacon, italian beans, asparagus, and toast) while others at my table had the Beefy(slow cooked beef cheek that just melted in the mouth) and the Garden(vegetarian breakfast). On a hot day, be sure to try one of the Thai Fruit Shakes — different combinations of seasonal fresh fruits. The one I had was soooo refreshing! Be sure to Like them on Facebook, as they post photos of their daily lunch menu each morning so you know what’s on offer.
