I would recommend this place for a weekday lunch. We sat outside and, even though it was cold, they had heaters, and even though it was a bit rainy, their patio has a plastic covering around it… so it was still nice to sit by the river. The waitress there was friendly and helpful. They had an awesome deal going — $ 25/pp lunch, which included a charcuterie-type plate with salami, bread, relish, and pickled veggies, a salad(a bit bitter, probably our least favorite item), a grain salad that included lentils and quinoa, half a chicken and a pork shoulder. Lots of meat, but hubby was more than pleased, and I have to say that it was quite tasty. The lunch also included a draft beer(just one choice, a light lager) or a glass of house wine. We felt like we got great value and a nice view to boot.

Nice location on the north side of the river, but the other review was right on the half glass of champagne! Wish i would have read that review before I ordered. At least call it a 3 oz pour or something so you know what you’re getting. My boyfriend also got the pork belly and crackling. The cracking was so hard that it was at risk of breaking his teeth, and the pork belly was all fat. Yes, we know pork belly has a lot of fat, but it’s supposed to have a layer of fat, and then a layer of meat, and this was all fat. We ended up sending it back and not asking for a replacement.

With the weather warming up in Melbourne at this time of year, it’s always nice to check out new places to dine and drink outdoors. Unfortunately I wasn’t very impressed with my experience at Pilgrim. Sure it’s has lovely views of the Yarra and surrounding buildings but the menu really isn’t suited to outdoor nibbles and drinks. You are really limited on what you can order, which is mostly mains, small variety to choose from as well. I also found the drinks menu to be limited in choice. I really wish I had better things to say about Pilgrim but at this stage, I can’t see myself returning.

You’re paying for the atmosphere at Pilgrim. Situated on the Yarra next door to Riverland, the bar’s outdoor seating offers a nice view along the river. There doesn’t seem to be a noticeable difference between Pilgrim and Riverland, so stroll down here if the first bar is too crowded. Though I definitely wouldn’t come here on a rainy day — the beer selection isn’t worth it. The only beers on tap are from CUB(heads up — Matilda Bay is Carlton’s «craft» beer line.) Plus the food seems to have a ‘location’ mark-up. I suppose you could splash out and spend $ 32 on a large bottle of Brooklyn Brewery’s Sorachi Ace. But really, if you care about what you’re drinking, just walk up the stairs to Beer DeLuxe or go elsewhere in the city. On the other hand, if you’re an out of town visitor and want to get a drink by the river, then pull up a seat.

Love going to Riverland on the Yarra — Pilgrim’s close neighbour(and owned by the same people I understand) but very disappointed by this new place. I got half a glass of Cava in a small champagne glass — even by today’s standards it seemed like a small serve. And we ordered the potatoes and some pork belly from the share plate menu. Again very small serves –and it was all really quite bland food and certainly not worth the money. Ended up spending $ 60 plus between 4, and none of us will go back. Sorry — lift your game.

New venue just a few steps along Princes Walk down from Riverland Bar. Very friendly service and nice selection of beers. We had the charcuterie which was quite nice with a beautiful terrine. Lovely view of the Yarra and far enough from Swanston that it’s quiet. Overall a gorgeous spot for an afternoon drink.
