So I have only ever had hot chocolate and croissants at this place. Please please please do not sell these croissants. Firstly they aren’t croissants at all and are in fact really rolls in the shape of croissants. Whoever you buy them from might want to learn how to bake a croissant.

Small shop, would easily pass by. WORTH A STOP! Fresh, juicy burger. Try the fries with garlic aioli sauce

If you’re in the mood for burgers, both friends I was traveling with got them and said they were great. Good size, fairly delicious, not too expensive. Unfortunately, I got the Caesar Salad which was pretty lacklustre for the price, and the weirdest thing was that the poached eggs were ice cold which was just… a strange feeling to eat. The salad was okay, not great. If you go here, avoid the salads and go for the burgers(which looked much better and I wish I’d had one).

A great little find, not least of all as there are such limited Sunday breakfast options to be found in Melbourne. The Grain Store was booked out(undoubtedly due to the abovementioned lack of cafes open,) so after a 5 minute stroll we came across Perkup. Advertised as a burger bar, and at first appearance looking like one, we were persuaded by the appealing sounding breakfast menu and decided to give it a go. Eggs Benedict and Eggs Florentine were our choices and didn’t disappoint. We were pleasantly surprised by perfectly poached free range eggs and hollandaise sauce that was bang on. Cappuccinos were also proper coffees — not the milky, weak variety you are sometimes subjected to. Service was charming, and price very reasonable. Recommended as a great breakfast stop before catching the Skybus around the corner.

My partner and I stumbled across this little gem when our stomachs were rumbling and our tastebuds were hankering for some good grub! We weren’t disappointed because Perkup Café & Burgers was delicious from the very start. The grilled chicken burger was sublime, easily one of the best I’ve ever had. Swiss cheese, red onion, the perfect amount of greens! I don’t know what they did to the chicken but it was out of this world! So succulent and tasty. The sweet potato fries were bloody good too, not oily at all and very tasty. After stuffing my face(and belly) I did see that they had a nutella milkshake… damn…should have left room for that… Coffee was good, not great, but I can forgive them for that. Great location, and a funky vibe, I highly recommend this little Melboirne treat.

Okay so this isn’t the best place in Melbourne and it’s not ever going to challenge for that title… But it does hit the spot for a burger feed! Is it cheap no, is it expensive not the most but you are looking more towards that upper end! The one saving gam rave is if you’re reading this review with a simple check in you receive a free hot chips! That’s a bonus because they were good and free is always better! The burger was good as well I would recommend it to anyone going to the footy as it’s pretty close to Etihad! Overall it’s not going to blow your mind but it’s worth a try for a feed!

I just wanted to grab a coffee on a Saturday morning so I dropped in here, as I prefer independent coffee shops than a big chain store like the one only a few shops away from Perkup. The place didn’t feel particularly busy, but there were at least 6 people waiting to place their order around the cramped cash register area, with no semblance of a line. The waitstaff person was very slow taking orders. I decided to time my coffee when my order was finally taken. It took over 7 minutes for one takeaway latte to be ready. The coffee was reasonable and served well, but the tiny space, customer service, and slowness lets this place down.

Perkup Double Banger — Best hamburger in the Melbourne CBD! I know, big call, but I’m sick of the light-weight brioche bunned gone in 3 bights burger that seem to be the trend. What you get here is a serious two hander require extreem jaw extension to take a bight from top to bottom. And the hamburger patties are appropriately firm yet with crispy outside. Add double bacon, double cheese, french mustard, tomato, lettuce, pickles, and special perkup sauce and you’re on to a winner. There’s also free fries check in offer for Unilocalers.

Mr Pen and I stumbled across this place on a day when we were adventuring in different directions. We spied a breakfast menu that noted orders were taken at the counter, but when we went in, were given table service by a confused staffer. Somehow, we also ended up with two numbers on our table. I ordered Eggs Florentine, but was served Eggs Benedict. It was fine, not the world’s most outstanding dish. Coffee was fine — again, nothing to write home about. My biggest concern is the exposed electrical wiring to which we were sitting disturbingly close and the feeling that there were too many tables for such a little space. If I was out with someone and they suggested eating here, I wouldn’t say no, but it’s not a place I would choose.

Perk Up’s a bit weird. It’s an indie store that feels like it wants to be a franchise. It’s uniforms and unmeaningful signage and slightly too much for coffee. It’s ham and cheese croissants and a range of premade sandwiches and a friendly professional disinterest from the counter staff. It’s the abrogation of personality in favour of efficiency. And if that’s not something you mind, it’s not bad. The coffee’s consistent(if maybe a milder roast than I like). The service is quick and painless — you go in, you get what you came for, you go out. You’re not going to sit down for a chat or a long meal, but you’re not going to have to wait ten minutes for a coffee either.

The marketing here is quite clever. This is a small eatery on Melbourne’s Collins Street — at the future end that also sells a different variety of wraps in particular. Every morning you see a staff member at the front of the store with a tray and a coffee cup on this tray; just to remind you to have your daily caffeine fix. I have tried a latte here a couple of times. Not bad, although I am wanting to reach out for the sugar to give the coffee that extra taste and zing. If you are in a hurry and you want to pick up a coffee to drink as your walking along Collins Street, and/or your on your way to work; then Perk Up is the right establishment for you to buy your coffee from. Otherwise if you are wanting a sit down coffee break or you are fussy about your coffee; it is best to go somewhere else where you have more space to sit down and enjoy; and pay a bit more for arty coffee. Can’t fault the service, it is fantastic. If you are not fussed as to where your coffee is coming from, Perk Up is worth visiting.
