So, apparently this place does burgers as well? I have to say that I didn’t pick this up when I first glanced at this place when I got off the tram on Gertrude Street. From what I could see it just looked like your typical bar. Actually, it was the fact that it looked like a bar(and felt like a bar when I walked inside) that I decided to check this place out. I have to say that it didn’t impress me all that much. Okay, they did have a pretty cool beer garden out the back, and the décor was quite nice as well, but for some reason(and I can’t really put my finger on it), I wasn’t able to warm to this place as much as I have to others. Oh, they do have a happy hour, which is a bonus.

Mr Scruffs has one of the tastiest burgers in Melbourne. Large selections of big fat burgers, but the veggie is my fav.

HEYVEGETARIANPEOPLEGOHERE! I’m on a never-ending search for a vegie burger that is more than just«ok» or «good». I’m not *against* the gourmet style burgers that many places serve but the vegetarian versions just seem to end up tasting a bit healthy, or like a mish-mash of flavours, usually with a slightly mushy texture. But as you may guess from my yelling, Mr Scruffs is stepping up to the plate in a damn good way. Finally I can get a greasy and satisfying burger that leaves me with that happy regret like I see my carnivorous friends enjoy… the vegie burger here is simple — a crunchy fried pattie(maybe potato and onion?), lots of special-sauce, pickles, a bit of lettuce and not much else, on a brioche bun. It’s dense, indulgent and very satisfying. We had onion rings and(vegan) chili fries on the side, both of which were totally acceptable without being mindblowing(i suspect the non-vegan chili fries would be pretty great) but with a burger like this, I didn’t care at all. Mr Scruffs has set the new benchmark, and it’s about(non-) bloody time!

This is my favourite burger place in Melbourne and Wednesday everything is half price. I booked a flight back from the uk to t up with the half price burger. Sad yet true

All I am going to say is «double patty beef burger with extra bacon and a side of poutine chips» That really is burger perfection so there is not much value in me adding more words. Just go there, order it and enjoy!

There’s probably nothing quite like Mr Scruff’s in the Smith St-Brunswick St region. I’d call it an all-rounder. It has everything, from decent drinks to fancy cocktails, to cheap good food to the ridiculous triple patty burgers, to a indoor lounge and a cosy outdoor area. Pretty much it suits most occasions brilliantly. Now I have only been on Wednesday nights, which are affectionally called«Hood Wednesdays». I like to call it however half-price Wednesday, which is exactly what it is. Burgers then become $ 5.50, giant baskets of chips $ 4, I’m sure you get the drift. The burgers too are very good, irrespective of price. Having eaten my fair share of Melbourne burgers, they definitely rank in the higher of town. Only thing to beware of on Wednesday’s is food will definitely take a while to come, but if you are happy to enjoy a good beer, then you are all sorted. It’s definitely a place I would be happy to go to on other nights of the week as the food/vibe is great(being in the middle of Fitzroy there are a fair few hipsters if thats not your thing), but its fair to say its hard going past visiting there on a Wednesday night!

I spent a night there, met up with lots of friends, had lots of drinks, but all I can remember is that vegie burger. Oh my god, that vegie burger. Apparently they have half price nights. I don’t live in Melbourne but if I did, I would probably go every week for that vegie burger and get very fat and happy.

Great burger — juicy beef patty, finely shredded lettuce, diced onion, melted cheese slice & relish on a toasted bun. Perfect taste sensation, decent size & goes down a treat with the on tap apple cider. Super kransky — spicy cheese kransky, coleslaw & salsa on a warm flat bread. Bloody marvellous. Fries — crispy, coated in salty spices & seemed with dipping aoli. Fun & friendly atmosphere for a weekend lunch with mates.
