Now I have new favorite meal. It’s vermicelli with egg noodles at Killiney Kopitiam. The meal looks nice but it tastes much more better.

I am surprised to get a authentic laksa in Melbourne. Vermicelli with egg noodles are«the laksa»! Broth is rich, with fish cake. Coconutty soup base. Just so so delicious! I feel like I m in Singapore. Another surprise is, they serve Rojak! And Singaporean traditional Poached Egg breakfast! I m sure I’ll visit this place again & again! Friendly staff & clean environment!

Reached Melbourne today n saw Killiney Kopitiam… Popped in to check out if the food is as authentic. Oh my, i was absolutely impressed by the similarity in taste. The seafood horfun n the seafood laksa comes with fresh fresh seafood… A sip of the teh tarik reminds u of Singapore … Thumbs up! Will try to go one more time before I leave Melbourne^^

I really like Killiney’s hainanese chicken laksa. The chicken is always super tender and the laksa soup is always rich and fragrant. There is a good mix of thin rice noodles and hokkien noodles. I liked it how when I ordered takeaway they would separate the noodles and the soup so it doesn’t get all soggy, not all takeaways think of that.

I popped into Killiney on Bourke Street after a Malaysian friend recommended it to me. I’m a big fan of Kaya toast and Milo, so I was keen to check it out. Excellent service and nice atmosphere. Loads to choose from on the menu. I thought the Kata toast was ok; it was a bit more ‘eggy’ than ‘coconutty’ and the Milo Dinosaur that I ordered was a little bit light on Milo. However, it was pretty cheap and I will be coming back to give it another try.

I was craving for something Indonesian/Malaysian/Singaporean and that’s how I ended up here. I got here before the lunch crowd did so, I had the place to myself… but not for long. You order your food and pay at the counter. They give you a number. You find a table and wait for your food. They have so many good options to choose from. I was so torn. I wanted sambal, nasi Goreng, mee goreng, roti, laksa… pretty much everything on the menu. But I had to calm myself down, clear my thoughts and focus on getting 2 entrees, kaya toast and teh. Sambal Fried Fish: Different chilies + deep-fried fish = amazing! Pass me the rice! 4⁄5 Singaporean Laksa: They have different varieties of laksa. I picked this since it has everything in it: tofu, fish, chicken, hard-boiled eggs, noodles in a coconut curry broth. 4.5÷5 Kaya Toast: Basically, butter + sugar on toast. This reminds me of what my nanny would make for my afternoon snack when I was little. This is what made them famous(their tea and coffee are good too). 4⁄5 Teh: Hot or iced. White, black or green. With or without condensed milk. I got mine iced, black with condensed milk. 5⁄5 They have lots of dishes, drinks and desserts I remember having as a kid living in SouthEast Asia. Milo, longan, durian, lychee, mango sago, etc. I would have ordered more but I realized I had Canadian dollars left in my wallet instead of AUD. Mother of all failures!

I’m happy to say that my second visit to Killiney was just as good as my first! The joint is modern and clean, menu extensive and easy to understand, and available on the website to spend your morning pre-planning your lunch!(I love to do this!) Ordering happens at the front, where you prepay and collect your cutlery — pick from traditional chopsticks and spoons or western implements. You won’t need a knife, as everything is very easy to tackle. Take your number back to the table so your meal can find you! Fast: The food was so quick! Actually our drinks were ready before we got back to our table. Drinks: Extensive Singaporean treats served in adorable mason-jar style cups(with handles of course!). Usual soft drinks are available too. Food: Really tasty and great sized portions. If you finish your meal you will be nicely full. Can’t imagine anyone still being hungry! Price: SOGOOD! $ 8.80 for Hainanese Chicken Rice is spot on for good value! Drinks average $ 3.50 and are nicely sized. Atmosphere: Busy but not crowded. Staff are friendly, quick and professional — love it! Special treatment: Called and reserved a table — they gave us a nice one with booth seating without being asked — groovy! Asked for a couple of items omitted from dishes with no problems. Very pleased. Verdict: I’ll be happy to return. Price is unbeatable and food is delicious! As a friend recommended this to me, let me in turn recommend this to you…

I enjoyed my first meal here with bright and friendly service and combinations of food that goes way beyond the stand Asian fare. Be brave and experiement with combinations such as beef randang with a side of anchovies and peanuts. Yum!
