I was entirely impressed with this restaurant, having been to many ramen places in the city. Upon entering, I noticed the large, open room was not completely crowded at peak lunch time, which is a surprise after dining here. The décor, lighting and seating options were on point. There is even a tatami room for dinner groups. The menu was just the right amount of options so as not to overwhelm. They could have added some photos of the ramen but for most common diners, it was straight forward enough to understand. Choose your soup base, add toppings, select spice /flavour levels and they even throw in extra noodles free of charge. I tried the Yuzu tonkatsu, having never had it before, and boy was I delighted when the bowl arrived and my noodles and toppings were swimming in a sea of green goodness! The taste was equally exciting, same richness as a normal pork broth but with a hint of citrus, not too overpowering, just perfect. I didn’t eat the extra noodles as I was too full, so will skip that next time so I can enjoy more of the yummy broth. I’m actually interested in trying some of their other ramen and would consider coming back for dinner, as it’s quite reasonably priced. Staff were attentive and friendly. The line up of chefs working away behind the glass was good to see and paid off in the great meal I enjoyed. This rates right up there with the best of Melbourne ramen.

Past this place and decided to go for dinner few days ago. Place was quiet since it was an early dinner. Had a nice bowl of Yuzu ramen. Tasted like the one i had in Japan few year ago. Staff was attentive and provided good service.

Was in town for two nights so time was short. My buddy recommend Chin Chin and Lucy Liu both were packed at 6pm on a Tuesday evening so my wife and I ran into this place just av few steps away. We both love ramen and fried chicken so we tried this place out — fantastic!!! Truly authentic place. I think I know why this place was relatively quiet — Melbourne hasn’t figured out the joys of tonkatsu ramen. Or maybe the hot weather wasn’t conducive to a hot bowl of noodles?

Truly fantastic ramen. I cannot work out why this place is so quiet. Between the friendly staff, cold beer and interesting seating, it’s dumbfounding. I strongly suggest you give it a go. The beer is cold and the ramen, oh the ramen, utterly delicious and authentic. So fully of noodles, pork, miso(if that’s your thing) and enough Umami to knock you out. Support these guys. They deserve it so much more than some of the crap in the area. 100% worth the trip to Russell St. Looking forward to going back.

I have a rule that if menu a item has Yuzu in it, then I have to order it. So when I turned up on Ikkoryu for a Friday night ramen session and saw they had one that featured this marvellous Japanese citrus, well it made the difficult decision of ordering an easy one. The menu here is a bit convoluted, with a myriad of options available for your simple bowl of noodles. If you don’t have an easy ordering«rule» like me, then go for one of the combos they suggest for your first visit and get more creative next time. The ramen itself was amazing. The noodles cooked to «normal»(you can ask for soft, or firm too!) and with extra nori and gooey egg it was very filling. It’s possible to get an extra serve of noodles with your ramen for free, which is served towards the end of your bowl. My dining companion asked for this but when it came time to give the signal for the extra noodles it was impossible to catch the eye of one of the staff. Staff were friendly, but we had to ask for our beer 15 minutes after ordering it and needed to flag someone down to request the condiments that every table seemed to have but us. At this stage I’m giving Ikkoryu three stars. The food is delicious but there’s a few teething problems with service and dear god the music made me feel like I was in a nightclub. I’m sure they’ll be able to iron these out with time and so I’m keen to get back, perhaps to score one of the sunken tables that they have.
