I did not enjoy my experience at Fraus at all. I met with my friend there for Saturday brunch, and after waiting for some time we still hadn’t received a menu. We asked a waiter for menus and then waited for almost 10 minutes. When we still hadn’t received a menu, we asked another waiter. After finally receiving our menus, it took them another 10 minutes to come back and take our order. We ordered one savoury dish(an omlete) and one sweet dish(a fig, chocolate and riccota crêpe) to share between us. The omlete was fine, but over priced and nothing to write home about in terms of taste. The crêpe was actually pretty disgusting. The flavours were a very strange combination and just didn’t come together at all. Also, when I cut into the crêpe, all of the water from the ricotta had separated and spilled out onto the plate. It was just a bit gros, really. The combination of bad service, bad food and a complete lack of atmosphere made this a very underwhelming experience.

Fraus is a lustful, amazing café where chocolate is the name of the game. For those on a diet: DONOTENTER! From sweet chocolaty crepes, to tastings of the many different bit sized chocolates, to the devastatingly good hot chocolate, it’s hard to resist. It’s very hard to resist…

This sounds like my kind of place, so I really, really wanted to like it. But alas. On my first visit I ordered the 3 cheese galette. It was a perfect start. The salad and cracker that comes with it is absolutely beautiful. However, I wanted to order a dessert crêpe too, despite the fact I was busting at the seams. There was no one around, I could hear them talking in the kitchen, so I waited. And waited. Then I was I about to give up when finally someone turned up. I honestly think it was a sign, I shouldn’t have ordered another, for my crêpe came with an unwanted ingredient — one long strand of hair. I wanted to say something, but my friend didn’t want to make a scene. After all, she said, our galettes were great. With a sign, I agreed. Ok, so I gave them another shot. This time we came to takeaway some coffees and chocolate. The three coffees took about 40 minutes to make, and no the place wasn’t packed out and busy. I stood there and watched and it literally just took them that long. God I love crepes so much, which is why I know if I were to ever pass by here again, I’ll give them another shot. Maybe i’ll just stick to the galettes and try a hot chocolate instead.

In a city overflowing with places to brunch, here are the few things you must know about Fraus: 1. Don’t drink the coffee. 2. Do drink the hot chocolate, if you can choose from the 30 something flavours they do(all gluten free too… yay). 3. Absolutely order a galette(galettes are savory crepes made from buckwheat… also gluten free). 4. Don’t order more than one dish at a time. I know it all looks extremely tasty, but trust me — your eyes are bigger than your stomach. 5. Go anytime — it’s big enough that you often won’t have to wait for a table. Think that about covers it :) Bön appetit!
