Hotel Formule 1 is located within 400metres of Melbourne Airport. While it isn’t luxury accommodation it provides a bed to stay in for those late arrivals or very early departures. The rooms are small with, ironically, aeroplane toilets in the rooms. I’m not joking. The actual toilet wall is the cubicle you find in a plane. I guess it prepares you for your flight ahead… The beds are clean and there is a little hand basin, mirror, heater and television. The desk downstairs is manned during business hours — if you arrive before or after they begin there is process to follow that you will be informed of when booking. The staff here are not particularly pleasant though so don’t expect any small talk when you arrive in person. There are no lifts and many floors so if you have big, heavy bags expect to have to lug them up a few flights of stairs. The hotel is almost always quiet but people are constantly coming and going. If you are a light sleeper there is the chance that you will be disturbed by the background noises of opening and closing doors. At only $ 109 per night the hotel is a cheap place to stay and makes that 6am flight a lot more bearable to catch.
