Went here on a Tuesday night for some bibinbap(not sure if that is correct). They had run out of chicken and beef so we had the tofu vegetarian option. It was great and reasonably priced i have only given 3 stars due to the limited options available. I will be back. Thank you.

My friend kept raving about Eki Bento so thought I finally had to try it and to be honest I wasn’t really a fan. I had a chicken bento box, it said on the menu it came with an omelette which was fine but I didn’t like that the omelette was mixed into the chicken. It lost all flavour and just tasted gluggy. The tea which I know is hot was so boiling we burnt our hands picking up the tea pot and once putting it in the cups had to wait until our meals were finished for it to finally cool down enough to pick up the cup. I wont be going back, there was nothing I had which I left thinking oh that was yum…

Dropped in for lunch on Monday after I had a hankering for sushi and my local Japanese restaurant is closed on Mondays. There was a very limited selection of takeaway sushi(4 packs, a different variety each) on display. I went with the tuna mayo as the fried options looked over-cooked. The sushi wasn’t great, the seaweed was disintegrating, and the rice was gluggy on the outside and slightly hard in the centre. A disappointment for $ 8 for 8 pieces, not cheap at all. I probably would have given them 3 stars but the service wasn’t that friendly either. I may go back in the future and try their cooked meals and see if they’re better.

Love this place. Had a teriyaki chicken bento for dinner tonight actually. Such a great assortment of foods and I was left feeling full but not bloated. Delicious!

Eki Bento is a little Japanese/Korean restaurant on the Whatley Crescent retail strip in Maylands. I’ve never eaten at the restaurant but have had takeaway a few times and always been pleased. We popped in for a quick bite this evening and decided to eat in. I ordered the Beef Bibimbap and it was quite good. When I left, I left very satisfied but as I sit writing this post, I realise it was not brilliant. Unfortunately the Maylands restaurant does not offer Dolsotbobimbap(in a stone bowl), only Bibimbap in a normal bowl. Part of the joy of Bibimbap is scooping out the crunchy rice that has stuck to the hot bowl. The first thing I noticed was the addition of lettuce. I’ve eaten a lot of Bibimbap in my day and can’t recall any ever having lettuce. The temperature of the meal was the next thing I noticed, it was lukewarm which doesn’t happen when the dish is served in a hot stone bowl. The mushrooms and pickled cucumber were delicious and really made the dish, the rice was well cooked and there was a generous portion of marinated beef(albeit a little dry). It was a tasty meal and I enjoyed it but I wouldn’t rave about it. Would I return? Yes — Eki Bento is local to me. I’m not sure I would recommend travelling to especially to dine at Eki Bento but if you’re in the area, it’s worth a try. The food was good, but not great. Tip: if you order the Bibimbap and ask for no lettuce and extra warm/hot.

I’ve been here a few times now & each time I have left full and very satisfied. The food is great, and there are enough vegetarian options that I don’t have to keep ordering the same thing every time(which is a nice change!). Although its a Japanese restaurant they also have some Korean dishes including bibimpap, which I cannot recommend enough! It’s a bowl of goodness made up of rice, all different veggies, your choice of meat(or in my case tofu) with a fried egg ontop and a side of chili sauce. I’m always a fan of a dish you can eat with just a spoon or fork and this is no exception! We always order the Japanese green tea with our meal & the waitress even came over and filled up our teapot with extra water when we were finished at no extra charge. Not a huge deal, I know, but it’s little things like that that make you want to go back!

After a busy day and early evening of running around from one end of Perth to another I was in need of a quick, fresh and filling dinner. Not far from home is Eki Bento and it seemed a perfect way to end the night — a nice Japanese feed with a cold beer in front of the telly. My order was ready relatively quickly and once I dug in at home I was relatively satisfied. It definately didn’t blow my socks off in terms of taste and freshness but lets be honest — I’m yet to find a take away joint that does. I may try dining in one of these days just to see the difference, if any.

Ordered teriyaki chicken take-away. Long long wait for the food(over 25 mins) — surprising as there was only 3 couples in the restaurant section, so it didn’t appear busy. Serving was tiny, chicken was dry, skin was soggy and not enough sauce, no grated ginger, just some limp lettuce that was a little brown in spots. Definitely better choices of Japanese in Maylands that offers better value for money and taste. Probably will give them another try to see if it was just an off night.

The sushi is tasty, the bento great value. The only reason I didn’t rate Eki Bento higher is their Katsu is mushy not crunchy(authentic perhaps??). It’s great to have the takeaway option, which I did last week so I could scurry home to watch another episode of Spartacus. In hindsight ordering the udon noodles while watching Gladiators slice each other open wasn’t the smartest choice — but the soup was extremely tasty. Good stock :)

I was drawn to Eki Bento because I am always drawn to Japanese food, the smell in the restaurant was also very inviting. I like that they have four and eight packs of sushi instead of three and six but if you are buying an eight pack it’s $ 8.50. By the appearance and presentation of the sushi however I wasn’t jumping at the opportunity to buy it. The dinner dine in bento is $ 16.50 and looked a little too filling so I went with the usual Chicken Teriyaki don. I find it a little under stimulating as there was not much sauce to soak into the rice which there was quite a lot of which is my favourite part and they forgot to give me my mayonnaise which I ordered. Apart from than that what the food is well priced and tastes alright.

This is the newest edition to the stream of cheap and cheerful shops and eateries along Whatley Crescent. Eki Bento caters Japanese lunches; sashimi, sushi and no surprises; bento sets. They also dabble in Korean cuisine with a «Bibimbap»; a bowl of steamed rice topped with seasoned veggies, marinated beef and chilli«source» as they call it. The service is welcoming and food very fresh. The selection of sushi is limited to meats however and they’re a bit heavy on the rice. 4 pcs of sushi range from $ 4.50 — $ 5.50 for Salmon and… cheese?

Eki Bento specializes in bento box lunches. For $ 20 you get an assortment of sushimi, miso soup, and nigiri. Those who aren’t fish fans can choose the chicken teriyaki or the udon noodle soup. I came in for a traditional sushi roll, and ordered the salmon and avocado roll. I was a little disappointed that they handed me a box from the fridge, as usually I like my sushi made to order. Also, this sushi roll had the seaweed on the outside of the roll, and my preference is having the rice on the outside. Aside from those two things, the quality of the sushi was great. The fish was fresh and the roll was still delicious. They did have a chef on staff, so I think the next time I come in I will ask them to make it for me with the rice on the outside and I will definitely be back to try the udon soup.
