The Dragon Palace is the place to go if you want ultra Aussie Chinese food. The menu and décor looks like it has not changed since the 80’s. The food is ok, nothing exciting just your general Aussie Chinese style food. The prices are a bit more than I would expect to pay for what is essentially the same quality you could buy in a $ 12 for 3 choices combo in a food court. The waiting staff are pretty friendly but weren’t really helpful in suggesting best dishes etc.

Great Chinese restaurant which had been around for ages! Sure the décor is a little dated but the food is great. The meals we had were tasty and fresh and large size. We had 3 dishes and rice between four of us and that was plenty! The staff are wonderful and friendly. The Kung Po Chicken special was so good!

Walking into Dragon Palace one notices that it could probably do with some new interior furniture and decorating. It feels like an old football club that has een converted into a Chinese restaurant. BUT I’m in no way pretentious in that regard so I don’t really care what it looks like. They still have some amazing Chinese style light fittings and art hung around the store. And the food is great. Probably the best lemon chicken I’ve ever had. It wasn’t too lemony, as lemon chicken often is, it was just right. Soaked in lemon sauce, but still battered and crunchy. Fantastic. They offer some amazing banquet options. A banquet for two will cost you $ 22 per person, and entitles you to prawn crackers(of course), a spring roll and satay chicken stick each(the spring rolls were meaty and juicy and the satay chicken sticks were some of the best I’ve ever had), a bowl of chicken and corn soup each, Mongolian beef, honey chicken and a large rice. And after all that some Chinese tea. Great value. They also do a great sweet and sour sauce to add to whatever meat you enjoy. My favourite sweet and sour dish is chicken, and it’s what I generally judge a Chinese restaurant on. And theirs is delicious and has better chicken to vegetable ratio than most other Chinese restaurants. I certainly suggest choosing Dragon Palace over any of the other Chinese options in the area.

I have lived around the corner from the Dragon Palace for most of my life, and have had many, many take away dishes on a lazy Sunday Night! There are a number of other Chinese options around the local area, but the simple reason why this was always the number one choice is that they are just better than all of them! The Fried rice is moreish, Mongolian Beef juicy and rich, Garlic Prawns oily and garlicy(both very good things) and on top they are really quick! The same familly have owned the place as long as I have been going there and they are fantastic. The hostess in particular is alway full of genuine smiles and more often than not recalls the conversation you had with her the last time you picked up a number 24 with a side of 43.

This place looks pretty shabby from the outside and it’s not exactly 5 star inside either. In truth, I’d never have been attracted to the Dragon Palace if it wasn’t for a dire need for local chinese takeaway one wintery night. I’m glad I gave it a bash as I’ve never looked back from that first taste of their Lemon Chicken. For the popularity of this westernised Asian dish there sure are some shockers out there. Dragon Palace’s has tender little fillets coated in a nice, light batter and accompanied with a delicious lemon sauce that’s the right blend of sweet and sour flavours. As for the Pork in Plum sauce that was a once only deal. I was both intrigued and excited at the potential for this dish but on taste-testing was disappointed to say the least. It might have been plum but who could tell. It could’ve been any tasteless purple substance for that matter. So you win some you lose some here but when they get it right it makes up for their misses. For some after-dinner clairvoyance grab a bag of Fortune Cookies as well. In a nutshell-lemon chicken fit for an emperor!
