Never again. Very poor service, almost to the point of a devil may care attitude about whether I(the customer) was even there. Not once was I offered tea as I waited for the staff to stop talking to some kind of salesman who had come in. The food was not that good either. I mean, hey, if I got crappy service but great food, I might step up the rating. But the service AND the food left so very much to be desired. Highly NOT recommended. Run over to The Parade in Norwood and get far, far better Chinese food over there. The owner has got to train his staff. Or, it could be that it WAS the owner who gave me such crappy service. Who the heck knows? All I know is that I will never go back.

Since moving to Adelaide around 14 years ago, Zen has consistently been one of my favourite Chinese restaurants in this entire city. The variety and superbly delicious food is simply undeniable; and the fact that the restaurant has lasted this long is a testement to its success. There is an amalgam of Chinese restaurants in Adelaide that all have their respective specialties, but Zen seems to do the whole lot. Exotic dishes such as three different kinds of crocodile tail demonstrates this restaurant’s variety, and you’ll undoubtedly have a hard time deciding which items to go with. The pork mince mapo tofu is out of this world, and is the best I’ve tried anywhere so far. The salt and pepper squid is a crowd pleaser for starters, and I also highly recommend the sizzling Mongolian lamb, served on a sizzling hot stone plate. The interior is a bit drab, but don’t let it fool you. The exceptional service more than makes up for it, and you’ll never have a collection of dirty dishes and bottles waiting on your table. The prices are a little higher than some other Chinese restaurants, but still reasonable for food of such a high(yet understated) caliber.
