The Coffee Laboratory

A cute little gallery of sorts featuring good coffee, cute gifts, coffee history and a mixture of other bits and pieces. The price isn’t obscene, particularly since I’m one of those Zymil drinkers.

Wow, The Coffee Laboratory: what a revelation! Tucked away down a semi-​industrial street off busy Kelvin Grove Rd, the unassuming exterior gives no hint of the airy, comfortable and quirky space within. Filled with tables and benches, couches and an array of vintage coffee paraphernalia, The Coffee Laboratory also sells beans and coffee-​makers, including alternative brewing products such as the Syphon.
The menu was great; a good mix of standard café offerings with a few unusual offerings such as the Korean burger. We were there for breakfast so I ordered the French toast with grilled haloumi, bacon and vinaigrette salad and my partner had the Poached eggs and salmon with avocado on Turkish bread. The French toast was great (not too sweet) and the salty haloumi provided a great contrast. My partner’s poached egg was cooked perfectly! At about $ 13 each we considered this place very reasonable and great value for the food we were served. The food was a *little* slow coming out; not a huge amount but just long enough to notice.
The coffee was excellent. In fact I would say it’s the best in the area. My partner’s hot chocolate was a slight improvement on the norm — dark and not too sweet.
The staff are gorgeous. The owner makes the coffees and always has a welcoming smile on her face. Her staff (children?) are lovely and friendly.
All in all I was very pleased to find this place; hopefully it does okay down this quiet street and I can look forward to more breakfasts there!

Horrendous. I bought a Groupon for their all you can it korean BBQ night and oh my f-​ing god it was the worst $ 39 I have ever spent for two ppl. There were no BBQ, no flame, and just a small table worth of food. It has 3 different kinds of already cooked semi luke warm meats (being the supposed korean BBQ meat) on a heat tray, rice, vegetable dumplings, a cheese board (!!!), cold prawns (!!!), a pie (!!!), and garlic bread etc. How was this korean BBQ was absolutely beyond me. What a horrible experience and I think I ate about $ 4 worth of food because it was so appalling. I believe ANY food court with korean food selling for $ 5 would taste better than anything there. I dunno about the coffee they serve, but DO NOT EAT THEIR KOREAN BBQ on Thursday nights, because trust me, those definitely aren’t korean BBQ food.
I do not wish to give this place any stars at all but I guess you can’t really go any lower than 1 star which is a shame.

What a cute and interesting place! I stumbled across The Coffee Laboratory and could not believe my eyes when I stepped in. You will find all sorts of treasures for roasting and brewing the perfect coffee! At the counter there are 3 blends on offer and they do change on a regular basis. This time they had Colombia, Costa Rica and the Indian Monsoon Malabar. They do have a «house blend» as well .
The coffee (I usually have my long black) was nice and smooth and definitely something that I could enjoy more often. This place is all about coffee, but they still offer some all day breakfast options and also lunch options (I think there are 3 options each, simple but tasty).
I had the salmon and avocado on sourdough with lime mayonnaise and it was the right amount of everything.
This is a family owned business and they are just lovely. They are genuinely friendly and I instantly felt «home». This place has such a relaxed feel to it that I am definitely going to drop by more often.
