This is an extremely popular and busy practice found underground in the car park of the Indooroopilly Junction shops. It’s easy enough to find driving; the car park runs parallel to the practice. If you’ve caught the train over, walk down two levels and you’ll hit it straight on. As I said, Coonan St General Practice is always very busy, and that may well be because there is only one doctor — Dr Shiro Ram — who is in high demand. Expect there to be a ten minute delay on your appointment, but it’s worth the wait. Dr Ram is always very thorough and easy to talk to. She’s a fantastic general doctor, but she specialises in Women’s Health and has worked at both the Mater Public Hospital and the Healthy Women’s Clinic. The nurse, Marie, is lovely. And the receptionists are incredibly helpful and friendly. I had two minor procedures(biopsy and removal of a mole) done in the practice surgery, and Dr. Ram was extremely professional. The procedure was over before I knew it and I even got to see the tissue sample floating around in an airtight canister! It was fascinating and disgusting. As you may have read in my previous reviews, I’ve frequented many emergency rooms and health clinics in the past. At one emergency room in particular the receptionist asked for my GP’s details. I told her my doctor was Shiro Ram, and she laughed and said Shiro was her doctor too. Even health workers trust her opinion! There is bulk billing available for children, pensioners, and those with health care cards. The practice also conducts home visits for patients who are too ill to travel, as long as they live within a 10 km radius of the practice. Coonan St General Practice is also always up to date with their reminders(e.g. vaccinations, breast checks, pap smears, etc), so you feel you’re in safe hands. NB: The practice often has problems with plumbing, so if you’re there for the runs it’s best to keep in mind there’s a public toilet upstairs one level.
