I am what’s called a mission shopper. I want eggs, so I go and I buy eggs. I don’t impulse buy or wander. I’m not especially price sensitive. I went to supplement superstore on the recommendation of a friend to replace a supplement I was out of. I found it, and I bought it. Them the guy behind the counter(the owner I assume) started talking to me. He, in a totally not overbearing way, asked why I was taking it and what I was trying to achieve. We ended up chatting for about 15mins and he upsold me(not pushed, but made me see the value of a complementary product) a second product and left me with the words«if you ever want to come in and have a chat about your fitness and supplements, come in, man. Even if you don’t want to buy anything, just come have a chat». Seems like he loves what he does. Prices are great and service is exceptional.

Okay, don’t judge. I hear you judging. Alright, go ahead. The shopfront of Supplements Superstore is bursting with well-oiled muscles, just like the shop owner(though somewhat less oiled, thankfully). I get an odd look from the one other customer as I wander in wearing my favourite floral dress, and looking decidedly NOT like a body builder. The owner greets me, probably recognising me from my last visit to buy a pile of protein shakes in garishly coloured cartons. I have no need to go into the back room, which is a warehouse space with shelves of two kilo+ sized buckets and bags of various muscle building supplements. I stay in the front room, looking for a supplement called L-Carnitine, a very handy little powder with lots of potential benefits(not that I’ve been using it consistently enough to really tell). Their prices here are remarkably cheaper than elsewhere I’ve bought weight-loss and protein boosting whatnots. They also have about five different varieties of it. The owner recommends the lemon flavoured version, but I stick to the only-slightly-icky devil I know. The owner recommends a no-fat powder mix for making pancake snacks, and while I’m tempted, I just take my powder and a Cookies ‘n’ Cream shake from the fridge. Mistake. Should have stuck with the chocolate. Their website claims to sell their products at internet prices, which I believe. It’s definitely handy to have a real person to talk to if you’re serious about your muscles.(NB: I am not in this category — a girl just needs to trim down before Christmas, OK? **sidles out of store**)
