About 4 months ago, I sent emails out to a few VW dealerships because we wanted to buy a Polo for when we arrived in Adelaide (from Sydney).
The first (and only) dealer to respond was Carmelle from Solitaire. She understood the difficulty associated with buying a new car while living interstate and made what could’ve been a tedious process very easy and enjoyable. After 5 or so prompt, informative and polite responses to our emails, we had built the car we wanted and Carmelle had it on order.
We knew the car would take 3+ months to arrive in Adelaide and this is normally when the dealer goes quiet and we just wait. Not this time. Carmelle sent us regular updates on the car’s progress and checked in to see how our move was going. On our arrival in Adelaide, it couldn’t have been easier to arrange the delivery date which is also when we met Carmelle for the first time.
She went through the car’s features with us, explained everything we needed to know and then sent us on our way. A few days later, we received a call from her to ask how everything was going and if we needed her to do anything more for us.
Carmelle delivered service above and beyond our expectation of buying a $ 30k car and made buying a car feel special again. If you’re buying a VW, you would be foolish not to give Carmelle a call and experience the same excellence we did.

I drive a Ford. It is scratched on almost every panel, never cleaned inside and out and generally serviced about once every two years if it’s lucky! Does this make me a ‘Ford Man’…I bloody hope not!
I remember when I was of an age when I had no idea how a modern combustion engine worked… actually, I still kind of assume there is a Hamster wheel somewere! Anywho, when I was younger I used to walk past the European imported car dealers and marvel at the Italian and German master pieces that I had only otherwise seen in the odd Bond flick. Solitaire was always a favourite destination of mine, and they still stock some of the slickest cars on the planet!
They have expanded a lot over the last decade and with their major show room being the brand new silver and glass ‘space station’ on Belair Road. Whilst I haven’t experienced their service department (I would die of shame if my car came within 100 metres of Solitaire!), I have had dealings with most of the employees through Christmas functions and they are a pretty good buch (surprising for car dealers).
