Barkers Wine Bar & Bistro

Popped in for a nightcap after enjoying a great meal at Ocha next door.
It’s a funny place — looks like an old dingy pub from the outside — but they have obviously re-​branded themselves now to be a wine bar, and I’m always happy with more wine bars around my neck of the woods.
We set up in the beer garden out the back where a staff member on his break was happy to chat and give us his wine recommendations — going as far to head in and bring out a taster or two for us. Another friendly staff member also chatted to us about wine — they obviously hire people with a passion for it — and gave us his hand-​written list of favourites they didn’t stock there for us to track down. All super nice and made for a great end to the night.

There is a great outdoor courtyard to have a beer in and the service was friendly. But to be honest that’s about where my great experience ended.
The pizzas we had were too greasy and the meatballs were dry. Add in expensive for the food and it was just an ok experience.

Overrated, overpriced and too loud!
