This is a big hospitality business for the Hills. Big room, big staff, big menu. And some alarmingly big serves! Great family dining, cheerful and thoughtful service. A big place with a big heart. Even the cake we went home with was big — German apple cake that got a round of applause from the cake-eaters amongst us.

Oh yes! The food is sooo good! My husband and I shared a breakfast pizza and a trio of sausages. We thought seeing as they specialise in barbarian food we should give it ago. We were blown away by how good our pizza it overshadowed the snags. We couldn’t eat all our food and were happy to know we could take it home with us! This place is great for groups and families as there is a large variety of options on the menu that will suit mosts needs.

Yummy lunch. GOod quick service. Sat on street table. Delicious food. Tandoori chicken pizza VERY good. Duck entrée was succulent and beautiful and very meaty. Wurst special hit the spot. Beetroot salad was artistically presented and beautiful. Fish and chips was impressive and very tasty. Burgers were massive and delicious.

Had a great lunch here on Saturday. It was very busy but we managed to get a table for four. Service was excellent, fast and friendly. The guys shared the massive meat platter(3 types of sausage, Pork Hock and pork chop, sauerkraut and potatoes). They did finish it, but not without serious effort. It was excellent, just humongous. Us Girls went for the beef burgers, yummm! You can taste the good quality of the produce used to prepare the food. As it is winter, I got the gluhwine, very nice and highly recommend.

Went to this place twice so far. We are from melbourne so coming here twice a month is a good thing :) the food is really tasty. No it’s not fine dining. It’s super casual warm family restaurant with a great German food selections. I had the pork hock the first visit and it was wonderful… It was falling off the bone! My partner had the 3 wurst with mash which he enjoys very much. And his dad had the veal snitczhel which he ordered again in the second visit… You know what that means? AWESOME! I had the duck curry the second time; boy was it delicioso!!! I cleaned it so good, It looked like I kicked the whole plate hhahhhah. My parter had the lamb winter warmer, it was wonderful. :) the service is oh so sweet and lovely… The place are industrial cool with open fire place. I will definitely come back EASY… Thank you Haus. xx

When in Hahndorf, we consistently make a stop at the Haus Bar and Kitchen. The use of the word consistent is very appropriate for this restaurant café, consistent good coffee, consistent excellent menu choices, consistent attentive service, further more consistently busy. The outside alfresco area has sun umbrellas, along with good seating options. Inside flows through from the alfresco area, offering comfortable large seating options, a generous size service area, with a large cabinet displaying, mouth watering cakes. The ambience is very relaxing, not loud, with good background music. For us, The Haus ticks all the boxes

Strangely not hungover this day 2 of the Long weekend in March in Adelaide meant i could enjoy a peaceful sunny afternoon with a couple of my closest. No alcohol for any of us(the highly disciplined athletes that we are *cough cough*) today so ’twas a tea/coffee and share platter sort of day, with a pizza to top it off. The pizzas here are always good(I used to work here back in 2010 so I may be a bit bias!) and it was service with a smile as usual. There is table service inside but we were soaking up the rays out the front so we had to order at the bar… not a problem for an ex-hospo manager but it may put some more fussy people off. Tea/Coffees came out on time and hot, and table clearing was appropriately timed. All in all a pleasant experience!

A cool, drIzzly day in Hahndorf prompted us to interrupt our planned activity and instead, retreat to The Haus for afternoon tea. There were about 20 of us in our group but the staff had no problem with re-arranging tables so we could all sit together, even though it was very busy. Took a while to decide on our choice from the great range of tarts, cakes and pastries but once we’d finally given our food and drinks order, we were served within about 10 minutes by very cheerful and helpful staff. Complimentary water and glasses were also bought to our table. Very enjoyable visit but now I’d better take the dog out for a walk to burn up a few of those calories!

We were here twice on a wine tour — once for dinner, once for breakfast. Prices in Australia are all relatively expensive compared to Vancouver, even in small towns, so I found, so I can’t really comment on value for money. However, I can say that here, none of the food came out as especially memorable and the service was downright lousy for dinner. Why was it lousy? Consider that we got to the restaurant at 8:30PM on a Sunday, and it’s open, and among a party of three, I order a vegetable tart and then a bowl of soup for my meal. The others also had appetizers, which came out in a relatively fast amount of time. My tart, though, was extremely late. «Oh, it’s taking time because it takes longer than a bowl of soup and flatbread to prepare,» was the first explanation when I asked. Fair enough. However, then those dishes were finished and I was still waiting. «Kitchen’s backed up,» they then said, which would have been possible except that the restaurant was less than ten percent full. When we complained again, she then went back and said«Oh, I apologize, the tart was entered into the computer as a main and that’s why it’s taking time to come out,» before walking away before we could say anything further. Really? If that’s true, I didn’t see any soup before my tart, which gives lie to their claim. I complained further when she asked if our meal was satisfactory, and instead of the manager or anyone coming over to apologize, she shrugged and walked off. Give me a break! If I am charging $ 17 for a tart and $ 8 for soup, I am going to make sure people go away satisfied with their experience. However, this restaurant did none of that, and they charged us the full amount for our meal. Not amused, we still had breakfast credit and showed up the next day. The morning staff was friendlier and the meal was good, with fresh pancakes and a lovely sausage(and so I left a tip, and left none for dinner the night before), but dinner left a terrible taste in my mouth. So what if Hahndorf is a tourist trap? It still doesn’t excuse the fact that service should be satisfactory, and in this case, it absolutely sucked the big one. If you stay at the Manna of Hahndorf, I would recommend you decline their meal offer at the Haus because you get no discount and you can be subject to this kind of treatment. I’m not sure what else is open at night(since the main road gets very dark at sundown), but I am sure even the convenience store may serve you better.

This is a place that you really want to like, but after going there several times, you have to pull yourself away from. The food they do on the spot is good, breakfast, pizza’s, tasting plates, and the décor & ambience is fantastic, but their main meals are less than average, we’ve been caught out several times, and most importantly, their customer service very poor & unprofessional. Once we had main meals that were almost inedable and were sent back uneaten, and they made us pay full price for both and just gave us buy one get one free coffee vouchers as compensation! On another occasion we were waiting well over an hour for a meal when someone came up and asked if we wanted dessert, when we informed them that we were still waiting for our meal, one of the meals then came out stone cold and had to be reheated, and then the rest of the night several waiters apologised a number of times each for what had happened, which meant we were constantly interrupted for the rest of the evening so we couldn’t talk to each other, and again they provided no real compensation for our troubles. And I won’t bore you but the list goes on. Must have been there about 15 times or so, and so often there were issues with their customer service, it turns a very pleasant place into a very unpleasant place. On the surface they’re friendly, and I’m sure they mean well, but if anything goes wrong they don’t know how to handle it and you get left with a bad taste in your mouth. It’s a shame because the hills could really have done with a place like this. Hopefully they’ll sort things out one day, but at this point it’s really just not worth the trouble.

Id love to give Haus a good rating but unfortunately they just do to many things badly and too often. I was a regular of Haus for awhile, it has so much going for it, great decore and awesome outdoor area just perfect to relax with a wine and a cheese platter. The breakfast menu is fantastic especially the breakfast burger. The coffee is generally very good, unfortunately the praise stops there. The customer service is a real let down, I’ve been asked to move a table of 12 people while in the middle of a meal, have been given coffee that tasted like cleaning chemicals and when we complained we were told«our coffee is really good» and they refused to make new ones or refund us. One time we ordered dinner, were then forgotten about and 45 minutes later we were asked if we would like to see the desserts menu. We let them know we were still waiting on our dinner. They were really sorry and asked if they could get us a drink making it sound like it would be complimentary, when we paid the bill they had charged for the drinks and the meals. In my experience dinner has been very hit and miss. I’ve had a few good meals, nothing amazing though and a few really bad meals. There is real potential here but with so many amazing restaurants popping up in Hahndorf now such as The White House and Bistro 25 who offer amazing food coupled with great customer service, Haus really needs to lift its game.

The food was good, although I’m sad no one wanted to split the taste of Australia plate. But the real star was the service. There was a function in the function room so they were busy. Something had gone wrong with the sound system so the speeches from the function came into the main restaurant. Our table was surrounded by speakers and my Nana can’t hear very well at the best of times so they specially cleaned out their little side room for us so we could have our coffee in peace.

My Grandma and relatives had just recently visited from Jakarta(that’s in Indonesia, for those sheltered beings — just kidding… but not really), and I took them to Hahndorf… On a 40 degree day. You can imagine their pain. I will never forget their faces, their begging, «what have I done to make you torcher me» expressions. So we stopped for refreshments at The Haus. This was the first time I’d ever been too, and I can firmly say it was a pleasant experience. Firstly, the service was excellent. The staff were friendly; there was this one guy in particular who was extra cheery but not overbearing, which is always a major plus. I ordered for a lot of people, which can be a painful process for the waiter/waitress(been there). So kudos for this guy’s extra patience! The food was superb, sharp, clean, fresh ingredients. Can’t say I was a fan of the milkshakes or iced coffee — too sweet and artificial tasting. But everything else was really nice. The wooden furnishings are classic yet contemporary, and provide a nice feel to the place. There’s an patio out the front with heaps of tables, and inside, it’s a wide airy space. Very nice.

I cam here when I was staying overnight in Hahndorf, for both breakfast and dinner. Man was it good. A nice big fully cooked breakfast, including bacon, eggs, tomato, mushroom, the works. There was lots of variety on the breakfast menu, which was great because my husband is a fussy little shit when it comes to food. For dinner, the food was fabulous. Huge servings, and they have traditional German style meals, or if your not that adventurous, they have traditional pub fare as well.

You’ll be spoilt for choice whether you come to this heart German café for breakfast, lunch or dinner. BREAKFAST Along with the traditional cooked breakfasts with eggs poached scrambled or fried are German-influenced dishes, such as slow cooked savoury beef mince with onions and fresh herbs, served on toast with tomato jam. And my bloke is a bit partial to it. The breakfast menu is extensive. A highlight is the fresh blueberry pancake stack with blueberry sauce and double cream. Yum! For a few bucks extra you can add double smoked bacon. Another brekkie treat is an old European favourite of mine, bubble and squeak — pan fried veg with free range poached egg and sour dough. And they generally get the poached eggs right. LUNCH There’s even more choice on the lunch menu, but highlights include the gluten free, fresh poached salmon Nicoise with warm bean, vine tomato, caper, soft boiled egg and potato salad and Swiss brown mushroom pizza with fire roast eggplant, basil pesto, leak and mozzarella cheese. DINNER I’ve yet to make it for dinner but hope to do so soon because it looks like another cracking menu. DIETARYREQUIREMENTS/KIDS MENU There is something to suit most dietary requirements — even on the kids’ menu. I must say it’s a shame the soft boiled egg with Vegemite soldiers is not on the adults’ breakfast menu as well because I love this dish. SERVICE The service is pretty good and the waiting staff are really nice and friendly, without being intrusive.
