If you are feeling a little creative a visit to Yuga Floral Designs school is probably a good idea. The owner, Setusko, is a lovely gentle lady who will be able to pass on her floral knowledge in a relaxed and joyful environment. The school is also a flower shop so it is possible to buy bouquets of flowers to fill your home with sweet aromas. I bought a bunch of sweet peas here for $ 20 and they smelt wonderful. Although I have not yet attended the classes I plan to visit with my mum and have a nice girls day out.

Have you ever wanted to create your own floral arrangements? Whether it be for fun, for a party or for your own wedding, Yuga Floral Designs has an in-shop design school that will teach you all you need to know. I was recently brunching at the fantastic Yuga café(affiliate) across Saint Johns Road. Following body after nose, I floated through the floral shop doors in admiration of the springtime blooms. In the perfect light and airy environment, I saw a young woman with cappuccino in one hand and orchid in the other, examining her work. She was making a brilliant bouquet in the most vivid of pinks and yellows. Yuga’s floral design school offers several different options. The Basic 10 lesson course with give you an overview on flower design basics, but at $ 900 for the shebang. If you have been in the business previously and are in search of a more in-depth understanding of floral color scheming, you can sign up for the 15 or 20 lesson courses. For most people, however, these courses will be a bit too intense. But we’re in luck! Yuga offers a 2-hour trial lesson for a reasonable $ 45, inclusive of all flowers and materials. I haven’t gotten a chance to try it out yet, but I am keeping it up my sleeve as the perfect gift for a girlfriend or family member. Can you think of a lovelier way to spend the afternoon?

Sitting amongst bunches of flowers in this café-come-florist-come-floral design school, life smells sweet. With the mingled aromas of freshly baked muffins, coffee and bursting lilies hanging in the air, it’s hard to be unhappy at Yuga. Local artworks are on display throughout the café, and as the floral orders come in, the arrangements are artworks in themselves. One of my Mum’s favourite places in Sydney(she loves seeing if she can name all the different flowers in the shop), the menu is original, the staff are oh-so-friendly, and they have a sweet $ 5 takeaway deal of a great coffee & the best home-made berry muffins. Also, as I left the shop with a bunch of flowers under my arm, a coffee in one hand and a muffin the other, I noticed they’ve branched out, opening another shop across the road — a fresh opportunity for my Mum to test her flora facts.
