Always a safe bet in Gawler, the Arms provides a family friendly casual restaurant atmosphere. One side of the restaurant is Junior-G’s, which is a family café restaurant with a big playground for the kids and a little playground for the under 3’s. During the day you can order normal café fare including cakes and coffee, and lunchtime and tea you get to order from the Arms menu. In the Arms side you have an all you can eat salad and dessert bar and a standard casual dining menu. The service is always quick, you never leave full and the staff are always friendly. I have a few gripes, the baby change room is a change table lumped in the disabled loo, which(when the oldies are there for the early bird special) can lead to some awkward exchanges when they try to come into the loo. The all you can eat salad, veg and dessert bar hasn’t changed in years. It’s very boring to eat the same foods all the time. But other than being boring, it’s a very safe easy option in Gawler(No surprises) My last gripe is the lack of a vegetarian option, other than lasagne. When I was vegan there was nothing to eat and as I am gluten free the lasagne isn’t good for me either. Luckily I am GF for a seperate dietary issue and can have it in small doses with medication so I had the lasagne.

The one difficulty that we were having on our day trip to Gawler was trying to find a pub that served good old fashioned pub food. So, as the cut off time of 2:00 pm was approaching we came across this place situated in the middle of the town centre. I have to say that it wasn’t the best place to have a meal, especially since the table that we sat at had yet to be cleaned(though they were quite busy). While this place is mostly a restaurant, they do have pokies out the back which does work to detract form the fact that it is a family styled restaurant. As for the food, there were no complaints from my brother(but then again he never complains) however despite requesting that my steak be cooked well done, I still discovered some pink in the middle. Oh, the lunch menu was quite cheap, so that was a bonus.

Haven’t had a meal this bad in a long time, as someone on Google Reviews said, I’ve had better microwave dinners. Really, really wouldn’t recommend. The food was EXTREMELYOVERPRICED… $ 23 for a slice of vegetarian lasagne which looked like it had been thrown together with ingredients from the salad bar. Want sauce on your $ 21.50 schnitzel? That’ll cost you $ 2.50 — $ 7 extra. My boyfriend described it as store bought, frozen, undercooked cr@p. Tasted like everything was made with the same base sauce. Never ever again.
