Beautiful shop. I think you could find nearly anything you are after here– home décor for yourself, a gift for someone else. Exterior looks posh so I never did anything but peek in the window(toddler/pram always with me). So glad I finally checked it out– really reasonable prices, especially on some of the jewelry.

John & Ginger is owned and managed by Tanya Mahoney a interior designer who has spent much time overseas and is a Freshwater local having grown up in this area. I learn from friends she has a passion for antiques of all kinds and in particular of British Colonial influence. Having spent much time in South Africa, Taiwan and the USA her passion has increased. I love the clawfoot antique bath to look at as its display only, the unique and exotic chandliers and the strange but beautifully crafted salad servers. And I have found Murchison & Hume cleaning products so today I am happy to purchase.

John & Ginger is one of those places that you walk in and you wish you lived there. An eclectic store set inside an old house, each room bursts with a beautiful mix of old and new homewares. The best room is the bathroom. Sadly the bath isn’t for sale but just about everything else is. The soaps, candles, salts, towels and furniture make for one very decadent room. A close second is the kids room which is full of interesting and beautifully crafted toys that make you wish you had kids(or you were one again!). This room is so enchanting my partner and I actually bought a chess set imported from South Africa($ 200). We both agree adults can use it too. The owner clearly has a great eye for vintage. My partner and I did eye off an old trunk($ 300), similar to one we’d seen in Coco Republic. What astounded us was the price difference — about $ 3500. Most of John and Ginger is like this — beautiful things at unbelievable prices which is exactly what will keep me coming back here for a long time to come.
