A store for buffs and geeks. If you geek out over speciality books, film or vinyl — it’s a fun place to browse. If your love of music extends beyond listening to everything on your phone or computer, you’ll be thrilled that stores like Title still exist. Geared towards music collectors, they have a wide range of vinyl available for those that still own record players. Or if you were considering going lo-fi and buying a record player, at least you know you can still get both classic and up to date records for it. Great for gifts if you have a music loving friend or relative. They also stock films and books. I don’t even own a DVD player so I typically have no interest in browsing hard copies, but the movie collection at Title is geared more to the cult classics and documentaries, the kind of interesting films that you won’t find in those weird vending machines near the supermarket(seriously do people use those?) The book collection is similar — lots of classics and non-fiction books. Again, awesome for gifts. The kind of store you’ll likely ‘just have a look’ and wind up leaving with something unexpectedly awesome.

It’s a clean fresh store, not like the usual lot. That’s not meant in a negative way to the others out there, and there’s a definite charm to losing yourself in a dusty pile of vinyls, but sometimes it’s refreshing to see the music presented in a setting that it full of light and clean. Like a canvas calling your attention. What I’m trying to say is, there’s beauty in simplicity. Lovely, friendly staff that make me shy because he’s so effortlessly relaxed, cool and friendly(afterall, no good music store is complete without a dreamboat working there). It’s also nice to see the showcasing of record companies. Particularly, when I was in(hi there Harmless Records of the soul, funk and beats section). I adore this store. It’s moving with music into the future. But not in a cold, disinhearted way. More like holding its hand and skipping along with it. Plenty of books and a great selection of films. Best go skipping with them.

This store has such a lovely, relaxing atmosphere. It’s too easy to spend hours in here just browsing. It’s so pleasant in here that I quite deliberately take my time flicking through the CDs, vinyl, DVDs and books, carefully pondering each one and enjoying the sense of peace that comes over me. Title has an excellent collection of hard-to-find film titles on DVD so if there’s something you can’t find anywhere else, it’s likely to be here. If not, just ask the really nice guys who work here and they’ll probably be more than happy to have a chat about it with you, and if at all possible, I’m sure they’ll order it in for you.

Title is a real collectors’ music store. It has a great selection of CD’s and vinyls, DVD’s and music and film related books. The DVD selection in particular is really good(though not huge). It has a great selection of old foreign language arthouse and cult classics that aren’t easy to find. In fact, much of the stock available at Title won’t be available at JB Hifi or your standard entertainment megastore. And as Title is a privately owned small business, it’s a much better place to spend your money anyway!

No stroll along Gertrude St is complete without ducking into Title. Just keep track of the time because it’s easy to lose an entire afternoon here. With a selection of records and CDs as well as DVDs and pop-culture books second to none, Title is a next-wave entertainment store. You won’t find bargain bins or mass-printed titles here: this shop is filled with imports, limited editions, beautifully crafted and packaged items that can be admired as well as played/read/watched. There’s a particularly good selection of soul and blues records here, as well as lots of local releases and a lot of stuff I’ve frankly never heard of. Which is the beauty of Title. It’s not just a gift shop with nice-looking editions of classic records and books; it’s a place you can discover new things, learn about what’s happening around the world, chat to the dude at the counter about what’s new and interesting. It’s the way new record and book shops should be.

Man, when I saw this place had opened on Gertrude I almost pissed my pants with glee. Then, Polyester had the oil on re-issues and new release type vinyl(they are still a great shop), and all the other independents(including Northside Records up the street) kind of looked after all the specialist shit. Now, vinyl has taken off beyond belief and there is room for heaps of indie shops within a small area — good for collectors, browsers and music fans alike. Title has a sexy layout and great stock. The vibe is a bit quieter than a lot of other indies, but the staff are genuine, knowledgeable and friendly. It kind of feels a bit more high end than the other stores around but their prices are good. They also have a great stock of books and collectibles. It’s, more than anything else, just a cool place to hang. Check it out.

Simply, a great record store. Always reminds me of the film«High Fidelity» where I browse and browse till my heart’s content. They have a great array of genres and titles where they pick all sorts of records to sell that keep you interested where it’s not just the obvious. I’m always in there asking what they are playing on the loud speaker as their taste is usually pretty cool. The prices are good and there are also some good DVD’s and CD’s for your collection as well. On a trendy part of Fitzroy, it is always a great place to listen to some tunes and buy a classic record to add to your collection.
