Pretty decent breakfast. Had avocado and poached eggs and they were delicious. Coffee was quite nice also. Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

The food here is fantastic! My favourite is the«Sir Charles Benedict» — Panko crumbed poached eggs, with bacon, served on roti bread with Sriracha hollandaise. Amazing! They also have the best smashed avocado I’ve ever eaten. Good coffee too. The space is newly renovated and very modern with good ambiance. Definitely a must for breakfast lovers!

Everything we ordered come out better than what we expected. It was unique combinations and rarely seen in any other brunch places. The roti was awesome, authentic asian roti. The hollandaise was not too spicy, just enough give extra punch flavour on the dish. The eggs was deep fried but still runny inside. It was an awesome experience. One of the best asian fusion brunch place in Melbourne by far. The let down was the service was really slow every time I went in on weekends, it takes a long time for them to bring coffee and tea to our table. It also takes a long time to get water or the bill. To justify, it was indeed a busy day but they clearly need more people.

Sorry, but this is going to be a negative review. Upon walking in, a staff member walked past us and played around on a till. Then another staff member walked past us. Then the first staff member walked up to the couple in front of us and took them to a table. Then he continued off to the other side of the café talking to some more customers. Then the second staff member walked past us again. I thought my friend and i had magically become invisible so i walked up to the till near the coffee machine, only to be ignored by all 3 staff behind there too. Finally my friend walked up to one of the staff at the other till to finally get someones attention. All that was needed was one person to say ‘ill be with you in a minute’. 5 staff members ignored us.5. That is never acceptable. We were seated at a communal table while we waited for another table?(This was just confusing, why not just seat people at the communal tables?) We ordered coffee and waited. Finally getting a seat, our coffees came. We then had to ask for menus. I wish they had someone proof read them because i found a couple mistakes. Now their saving grace is the food. Its interesting, creative and refreshingly different. I had Sir Charles Benedict, panko crumbed eggs with lots of bacon, spicy hollandaise, served on roti. Oh how delicious. Roti for breakfast? Hell yeah! The coffee was good, but I would like to explore their coffee a bit more since they have a roaster sitting in the café. The fit out is bright and vibrant. Good sized timber tables, nice flowers on the table, lots of light. Ill go back to check out their coffee and explore their menu more but first impressions last. I had such high hopes from what i’ve read about Sir Charles. The only reason im giving 4 stars is because i still have a little bit of hope left.

Looking for a new breakfast joint on my visit to Melbourne in April 2015, I waltzed into Sir Charles with a near-dead phone and found a great seat right next to a powerpoint. That I couldn’t use because the wall had been built right up to it. Awkward. STILL, the lovely staff took my phone away and found a powerpoint to charge it, though this did mean this solo diner was left phoneless for her meal. Look, when I’m by myself, my phone is my date. I kinda need it. I got my notebook out and did some scribbling. I survived. It was a struggle, but I survived. And my phone got charged. The menu is littered with subtle asian-inspired flavours. I asked for a recommendation, and was directed toward the Sir Charles benedict. I’m a sucker for a title track. No english muffins for this benny, instead you get panko crumbed eggs with sriracha mayo and delicious bacon served on a tasty, crispy roti flatbread. Yes, I recommend. The space itself is big, bright and beautiful, white tiles with wooden accents, and smiling staff are super helpful. I’m down!

Sir Charles is a gorgeous space and a great new addition to Melbourne’s café scene. I was originally lured here by the promise of some asian-fusion breakfast and the menu didn’t disappoint, with a good mix of options and promise of homemade sriracha included. On this occasion, I didn’t actually try these option… my sweet tooth got distracted by their hotcakes. Delicious ricotta hotcakes with honeycomb cream and fresh fruit, perfect portion, not overly sickly or crazy. They are also a coffee roastery and have both espresso and filter coffee on menu. I went for the COE on filter, tasty but not the best in the area for that higher price point. The space itself is gorgeous and as others have mentioned, huge. Filled with white, mint and copper finishes — it sets a relaxing tone for an early Sunday morning breakfast… but no doubt this place would get popular during peak times.

I had a very enjoyable coffee here a week ago and they appear to have a great coffee set up. The service is friendly and relaxed. I’m not a huge fan of the décor, but maybe that was because it was a quiet time of the day and the minimalist big open space felt a bit empty. Lots of white. The food looked good and I would come back to try it.

First visit to new kid on the block Sir Charles. They have made great use of the space the Bagel Shop left behind with a cooper/pine/white fit out. Flat white passed the sugar test with flying colours(one teaspoon then watch how long it takes to sink through the«head») the menu was a surprise(I was thinking Sir Charles = English style breakfast) no so — more Malaysian/Indian fusion takes on typical dishes. This isn’t the place to come for eggs and bacon. I had the miso scrambled eggs and my partner had the open omelette. Both were delish with a light spice kick. They had some great Sunday morning tunes on as well. Service was attentive with a grin. They also do lunch and small plate style dinners.

Like a lot of other times, I’m a bit slow off the bat in terms of coming down to check out the premises of sir Charles. I read about the location and then re-read the posted view with a bemused look and a questioning and confused mind. «Just next to night cat?, Huh, there’s nothing there.» So upon an exploration one morning I headed out to sir Charles one morning to see if I could locate it. It’s worth remembering that at this point I’d completely forgotten the name. Success! It was found, and I was rewarded for doing so. The coffee I had was cup of excellence, and it does a pretty good job of aptly describing itself. I’m sure if there’s ever another Bill and ted movie, probably the retiree version, Cup of Excellence will feature. On to the Benedict; opulent, indulgent and Moorish. Perfectly cooked soft boiled eggs in a panko crumb, which is perfectly crispy, not soggy with brilliant eggs inside. Add some great qaulity crispy cooked right bacon, some siracha mayo, chilli and a roti style bread to complete everything, and you have yourself a pretty darn mean breakfast. So many other things looked tempting on the menu, as well as further lunch and other eating intervals. But seriously I highly recommend their take on eggs Benedict. Do try.

Yup, I’m a fan of Sir Charles. Opening in early February 2015 I’ve now paid several visits and have been satisfied every time. The coffee can be sublime if certain baristas are working, but when they’re not then it’s passable but not the best you’ll get in Fitzroy. Until they’re all on the same page with technique then your coffee experience may not be in the territory of sublime but your food experience will be! I love that the menu swings firmly in favour of vibrant south east asian flavours with the likes of miso scrambled eggs and BBQ pork with roti and fried eggs. For kidlets big and small there’s boiled eggs and soldiers and if you’re after something a little more«regular» then go for the avo on toast or get simple poached eggs on toast, maybe with a side of bacon and house made kimchi? Breakfast runs until 4pm, and there’s a lunchtime menu that runs 12 until 4pm if you don’t believe in eggs after noon(what’s wrong with you!). Thursday to Saturday there’s also a dinner service, where the menu is made for sharing and filled with great flavour and spice. The son-in-law eggs are a standout as is the sashimi. These guys are licensed so you can have a beer or wine from a small list that hopefully will grow more creative in time. Service overall is friendly and doing well in such a large and busy space considering the newness of Sir Charles. In time, as systems are refined and they settle in some more, I think they’ll really hit their straps. Until then, be patient and cut them a little slack while you wait for your tasty meal.

O.k. so cold drip has been somewhat taken advantage of by the Fitzroy coffee scene as this über expensive refined process. Well as it turns out, Sir Charles does not agree with this egregious crime against our wallets and offers cold drip at a fair and low price. OH and the food is also well above par and what you would expect of Fitzroy.

«Sir Charles Benedict… I want to cry, it’s that good!» So after my first experience at Sir Charles I knew I had to dine a second time to have a fuller review. So here goes… I have been here for breakfast and dinner, yes I know what you are thinking — «you still haven’t experienced the Korean Fried Chicken Burger» yet my review is still 5 stars… Why? Layout and design of this fine establishment is minimalistic, not in your face… It’s open and huge which means it’s easy to have some space without feeling like you are sitting in someone else’s lap. 5⁄5 Breakfast — yep, I had the Sir Charles Benedict(I’m a genius) and it was all sorts of amazing. Wifey had the Corn Fritters while that was good it wasn’t no SCB. The breakfast was perfectly accompanied by tasty three quarter latte and a double shot latte 6⁄5(it’s that good!!) Dinner — Pork Belly Boa in a Trio. Yep as good as it sounds. Immaculately served yet the photo is after I fiddled with it(hey! Don’t judge I was hungry!) followed up by the lamb ribs. Not my favourite, a lil on the fatty side but amazing taste and once again served with style. I was given a steak knife — not needed as it falls off the bone. Honestly no need for cutlery… Just use your hands. :) 4⁄5 Fantastic establishment… Can’t wait to come back for lunch :)

I was excited to check this place out, some Grenada and I made our way over to the excellent brunch end of Brunswick street with mouths watering and coffee levels dangerously low. Occupying the former average bagel store the interiors are bright and fresh with nice lights, decorations and splashes of color. Our coffees arrived and they were greedily gulped down. Very tasty. We were very happy to find a all day breakfast menu with some great looking options(with plenty of nice vegetarian things to choose from!). We went with the corn fritters and also the jalapeño poppers. After a little wait the poppers arrived with an apology that the fritters were on their way. The café was almost empty so we are still wondering why they couldn’t come out together. Maybe 5 minutes later we got the fritters. We were both disappointed in the portion size for the prices and neither meal was large or filling but they were very tasty. I would go here again for coffee but with so many fantastic brunch places in the area I hope they pick up their game and offer more bang(or poppers) for your buck.
