I got all excited when I first noticed this place — flashbacks of the Kubrick movie soundtrack danced through my twisted little mind. What’s kind of weird here is that the Clockwork Orange theme doesn’t really carry through from the signage to the café proper. I had visions of porcelain dick shaped chairs and face-painted droogs serving coffee in fabulous sculptural cups with wacky straws while freaky improv jazz or the ‘William Tell Overture’ blasted from the speakers. I regret to inform that none of that happens here. None of it. They do do pretty decent, no-fuss coffee and standard kind of café food. It’s the kind of place that you don’t need a degree in gastronomy to decipher the menu. That can only be a good thing.

Not as über-trendy as a lot the surrounding neighbourhood’s cafés but you can’t go past the price here. You pay about $ 15 or under for a meal, and I have to say, it’s a relief. You get a decent feed(I had the eggs benedict) and I was very happy for what I got in return. Clockwork just gets the job done. I’ve been there a few times(I’ve been very hung-over and desperately needed a solid meal) knowing full well I’ll get a good feed for the right price. I really recommend this place if you’re feeling a little cheap and want to still get value for money. So you don’t get the beautiful Scandinavian chairs, or the nice lounge music, but you do get food on price. The only thing I have a gripe with here is the TV. It seemed a little unnecessary and it’s a sure-fire way to distract people out of having a conversation.
