Poynton’s Nursery

The Nursery: In my opinion as an amateur pottering gardener, the range of plants and all things gardening is very good! I’ve always been able to get what I wanted. Some may complain that it’s pricier than the likes of Bunnings, but that (to me) is because their plants etc. are much less likely to die after being planted.
The customer service here is excellent — it’s like it’s passionate people being paid to do their hobby… They really are helpful and knowledgeable.
The Café: Lovely for brunch, lunch or a snack with great views over the river — indoors and covered, so suitable whatever the weather. Tasty and interesting food choices with tasty snacks on offer too…
The Homewares, Gift and Furniture Shop: Not really my thing — looks like a load of «fancy bric-​à-​brac» to me but, hey, that’s just my taste. It’s certainly well stocked and has a broad range. Check it out and see what you think…

Wow, my ‘lunch specials’ choice was amazing, perfectly cooked & generous portion of salmon with crispy skin sitting on cauliflower mash with bok choy. So delicious, and with a half glass of prosecco for under $ 20.00, what great value!
The service is friendly & even on a cold winter’s day there are enjoyable views including the city skyline.

Just stopped in for a coffee after walking the circuit. Pleased to see they have provided a few extra tables for outside eating, essential when accompanied by pooch. Coffee… fair but the locale makes up for this. Need to remember that Sunday afternoon is prime time for families with young children who are enjoying themselves on the play equipment, loudly!

I have been going to Poyntons for about 5 years now and they just keep doing everything right.
Pros:

What more can you ask for?
Now to the cons… you knew there had to be a downside, right? Well here it is… They have a great location and a great café onsite so get quite busy on a Saturday afternoon especially if the sun is out so if you want to get some one on one time with their gardeners (Hi Steve) then get here early or come mid week!
Whatever you do, please be sure to read the signs in the car park, it does get crazy and it is a one-​way affair. I have seen many a near miss just because someone thought that the signs didn’t apply to them.

A lovely environment to shop, talk plants and wine and dine amongst the trees… but it is overly priced. The nursery is also expensive and I don’t find staff to be informative or able to give good landscaping suggestions. Happy to travel further from home to something better.
