Cheap Asian food with a twist: absolutely no meat used. Imagine my surprise on coming home to my vegan and vegetarian housemates discussing if they’d rather get the duck or the black bean beef for dinner, quite heatedly. Perfect for the recently-vego raised on Chinese/Malay dishes and the long-time vegan alike, Ren Dao serves all the menu mainstays from Haianese Chicken rice to Sambal fish — all made with soy protein, wheat protein, or mushroom. They do a pretty damn good job of it too. While I wonder how they came up with the concept, I’m glad it’s there — time to take a trip back down memory lane to all my childhood favourites.
