I heard about these places from some friends who had seen them, understood the concept and run away as quickly as they could. To most people paying only $ 10 for a haircut is too much of a gamble. It is to me as well, but I can’t stand how much it costs to get a haircut, especially since mine is nothing too exciting — I’m no Jennifer Aniston. When it came time for a haircut I decided to give it a go. I have to admit I was a little sceptical and nervous, but I convinced myself I had to try it and that if I was unhappy it would always grow back(a fact that would never console me if the hairdresser did get too scissor happy). It’s an unusual but efficient system. They have a machine from which you purchase your $ 10 ticket before waiting your turn(there are no appointments) and eventually taking your place in the chair with an elevated heartbeat. While I waited I observed the hairdressers cutting other customers’ hair. They worked quickly but still seemed to be doing a good job, not that I’m an expert, but it did calm one side of the argument in my chattering brain. I also noted, with some amusement, the innovative contraptions they used. I’ve never seen these things so please hold in your laughter if I’m a little behind the times. One nifty thing they had was a vacuum built into the wall, so after finishing with one customer they could sweep up the discarded hair, turn the vacuum on and it would be sucked away in a flash. The other was also a vacuum, really it was just a vacuum hose(the machine itself must have been hidden in the cupboard from which the hose protruded), which they actually used on peoples’ hair to suck up all the bits that had been cut but were desperately hanging on and resisting the change. It was unusual but effective. Eventually it was my turn in the seat. The girl listened carefully and completed the job quickly. I wouldn’t say it was the best haircut I ever had, but for $ 10 I was pretty happy and my hair was healthy once more.

If you value your hair like it’s a vital organ, then this is probably not the place for you. However, if you’re a low maintenance boy after a crew cut or an Asian mum wanting to inflict a bowl cut on your child, then this is the place to go. F10 Quick Cut is fast, simple and cheap. First thing to do is to deposit $ 10 into the machine and collect your ticket. Take a seat and wait for your number to be called. You should be served within three customers. I emphasize again this is a no frills, uni-sex hair salon. While the staff are qualified hairdressers, you’ll be disappointed if you expect a wash and conditioner treatment, warm towel, fancy up-style or any complicated hair procedure. Give this place a go if you have a head full of hair and all you require is to have less of it.
