The front is a bit of a mess; a bargain bin of jumbled books, DVDs and files and more signage that you can poke a stick at. Inside it’s much the same. Shelves were dusty and the front counter was completely covered in stacks of stationary for sale. It reminded me of my study desk during TEE. The service wasn’t very good either; I put my packet of Extra gum on the counter and the old clerk just passed it to the other lady behind the till without removing his eyes from what he was doing, to look at me. The lady who put through the sale was similarly absorbed in other tasks and held out her hand impatiently as I gathered the correct change. Service and shambles aside, they did look to have a wide selection of magazines; I counted at least 6 different titles on Tween titles alone.

Mr McGhee is the owner of McGhee’s Newsagency and he is the charisma and charm behind this review. He was always the nicest man who said hello and knew my family by name, the kind of nice person who makes you go back to this newsagents time and time again just to keep his small business alive. I did all my school stationery shopping here, he special ordered in diaries a year ahead when we asked and we even bought beautiful Parker pens as gifts from Mr McGhee. I’m so fond of this place and for a bit of a blast from the past with old school good service, I’d recommend you go to McGhee’s!
