Ruffey Lake Park

Basically my home, considering I run here in under two minutes. This park is the perfect place for anything and everything.
Personally, I’ve made use of everything it has to offer by having endless picnics, water balloon fights, BBQs, bike rides, and even leisurely strolls with my friends and their dogs. As a child, I adventured through both playgrounds and even once, was a part of an Easter egg hunt held there. But my favourite thing is the annual Carols By Candlelight held here every December. I’ve gone every year since I can remember, rain or shine, and will continue to do so!

This park is huge! You will always be able to find a quiet spot for yourself regardless of time or day.
I love the high, rolling hills — there are some benches at the top with great views. Tonnes of paths to walk the dog, ride the bike, and also plenty of barbecue facilities. There are also numerous events staged here throughout the year, such as the notable ‘The Passion’ play, which takes place around Christmas time.

This is by far, one of my favorite parks in Melbourne.
Just past Doncaster shopping center, you would have no idea such a large and beautiful park existed.
Upon entering the park via Victoria St you will notice a large playground with undercover areas and seating/​bbq facilities available. This playground is not your average swing & slide– it is very large with lots of different activities somewhere along it. There is also a flying fox here! I’m 21, and I came here once just to muck about on the flying fox. It’s not high or anything like that, just a cable rope with either a seat (belt included) or a disc seat (the ones u put between your legs).
Playground aside, this is an incredible park. It’s huge open landscape offers walking/​bike paths that cover every corner of the park. The lake in the middle creates a tranquil setting and the grass is always greener here.
There are quite a few bbq spots here and there throughout the entire park. This would be a wonderful place for a sunny Sunday arvo picnic. There are also leash free areas for your pooch to run around in.
