I’m still sitting in here. Just finished the best breakfast of my young life. Relatively young. Fine I’m decrepit okay, stop going on about it. This combines everything I love — a cosy nook of a café, a bar, and Mexican food. Let me just tell you about the food — there’s a Mexican menu and a regular modoz menu. Psht, as if that’s even a choice. The breakfast burrito looked like a Cancun carnival, a tortilla with an omelette inside laced with red peppers and spinach and all sorts of things and held together with a cocktail umbrella, with a side of chilli-dusted guacamole and some fresh corn chips. Get a hibiscus juice with it, it’s deep purple and fragrant and fruity in a way that gave me a little déjà vu to my backpacking days. And man, they’re just the nicest people. The barista is a champ, I stupidly let my coffee get cold while I was working and he made a new one for me. Didn’t need to, and I certainly didn’t expect it, but that’s just great service. Combined with the menu and the comfy velour couches and the quietness just off busy Oxford street, and you’ve got a damn fine winner I’ll be back to as often as I can. Oh, oh, and they have El Yucateco hot sauce, the dark black habanero one.

I had the best capuccino ever! The staff is friendly and the quality of the coffee is really good. I also liked the atmosphere of Mestizo and it is right in a very trendy neighboor. I highly recommend it.

I know that I usually comment straight away about the coffee. But the best thing about this place is the atmosphere rather than the coffee. I know, coffee is everything! I am not saying that they don’t do a good cup, but that’s not what draws you here. If it was just about the coffee then you can go elsewhere. However, come here for the seriously awesome staff, food and general vibe of this place. When I first walked in, the guy behind the bar started me up in a conversation. And I honestly felt like I was on the set of Cheers. But it wasn’t that awkward kind of chit chat — every time I walk in here, the staff are genuinely nice and interesting people. Consequently, they clientele are extremely similar. Maybe I’m just lucky, but I love the vibe that is here. The food is good, not extensive, but enough for a coffee bar. Especially, as it is good Mexican inspired food. And who doesn’t love Mexican? If there are any of those people, I don’t want to know them. So, now lets talk about the coffee. It is good, but not great. If it wasn’t for the vibe of this place I would give this place only 3-stars. You can get better coffee anywhere in this area. So if you are going to get a take away coffee I wouldn’t come here. However, if you are going to have a seat here, then it is worth the visit.

The torta pibil was amazing! I’ve been looking for a place in Sydney for good Mexican food and this place fits the bill. Great friendly service and free wifi! They’re also having an opening special, get a business card good for a two for one coffee!
