Stopped by to try their Yakuza’s Dream — Which is match hot cakes with passionfruit, preserved plum and native honey ganache! $ 19!!! Wow so tasty the hot cakes had a more dense consistency but lots of flavour throughout the dish. We also ordered some tea but it only came out ¼ full in the cup. Not a great thing when you pay $ 6.50 for it! Staff were friendly.

Cannot fault this place! Love the Japanese X Nordic fusion. Usually it’s the attitude of the staff that would let a place like this down. Not this place. Staff are always happy and not only do you feel the love of the staff, you feel the love they put into their food. Would eat here EVERYDAY if I was within walking distance.

How many places have you tried that is super hipster, with Nordic-Japanese brekkie? Wow, wow, wow. Popped by here for brekkie at about 9am on a weekday, and the place was half-empty. We got the meatballs, and the matcha pancakes, washed down with cold-pressed juices. Our only grouse with this place is that their cold-pressed juices are bottled, not fresh. C’mon guys! The Vildsvin, wild boar meatballs, comes with a berry sauce and onion broth. Very yum! My sweet option, the Yakuza’s Breakfast, had matcha pancakes, passionfruit, roselle flowers, and a honey ganache. I enjoyed the pancakes, which seemed to have a rice flour portion of it, if I am not mistaken, from the crunch/crust. The honey ganache was very sweet and went well with everything, but cut back so it is less cloying. This place is the bomb.

This place was nothing short of amazing. I was only in Sydney for 4 days, but if I stayed longer, I’d definitely come back for more. First off, this is one of the most hipster places I’ve been to. And I’ve lived in Seattle for a few months and have wandered Portland a few times as well. In fact, it’s so hipster, their building is located in a quiet neighborhood and it isn’t even labeled. If it weren’t for Google Maps, I probably wouldn’t have found this place. And it’s a Japanese-Nordic fusion: something that’s just completely foreign to me as an American. The servers are all super nice, and not to mention super hipster as well. Definitely added to the vibe, and I really enjoyed it. We asked our server for recommendations as far as food went and he recommended the pork roll for a savory option, and definitely the matcha hot cakes(Yakuza Breakfast) for the sweet option. Neither of us were disappointed. The Yakuza Breakfast was our favorite of the two. Not only did it look absolutely gorgeous, but it tasted amazing too! The light and fluffiness of the pancakes despite being pretty thick for a pancake was accentuated by the honey and butter and passionfruit. The coffee itself was pretty good as well. Their cold brew option was super interesting. It looked like whiskey, but it’s actually coffee. Worth a try if you’re a fan of matcha or coffee or interesting food or man buns.

What a great little find! My fiancé saw this place on a top Sydney brunches list so we ventured onto the other side of William street to check it out. It’s a Norwegian Japanese restaurant and has the look and feel of sitting in an IKEA magazine photo shoot. Guess that’s just because a it’s channeling the scando culture. White walls and wooden tables with minimal décor. I’m an egg purist, so when I didn’t see any eggs on the menu I got a little bit antsy. How can one have breakfast if eggs aren’t on the menu?! But looking further there were a number of dishes that looked awesome. I got the mushroom pond which was a beautiful mix of mushrooms, Japanese noodles, and crème fraîche. Wonderful taste and a harmony of flavours that just work. Actually think they could afford to try this with an egg on top :) Jack got the Porko Rollo which is an essence a pork roll(as the name would suggest). Really great flavours, moist juicy pork, great sauce, all bundled together in a perfect bread roll(not too mushy or hard). Great find for some really unique food!

Edition, currently shrouded in a construction site(proudly put up by Viagra scaffolding services), you walk in to something reminiscent of a relationship long since forgotten with a Swedish Japanese girl called, Ikea Harujuku. The music is calming and the fit out decidedly Nordic with lovely Asian influences like the money cat in the cake display box. Staff are relaxed and inviting with the cool urban vibe you’d expect. The cutlery is a little different to the usual all stainless affair, small touch but nice. Coffee is excellent(as per the other reviewers), I can see the barista pouring out white velvet with the love a respect a good flat white deserves. The menu is an explosion of Viking Samurai inventions. Two orders of the Porco Rollo — pulled pork, red cabbage, Japanese omelette(that kick ass sweet egg you can get on sushi). It was awesome. The babymama orders the fish soup — light and creamy — well balanced, maybe a little light on the fish though. We decided to share the Yakuza’s breakfast for dessert(who says you can’t have everything). Essentially pancakes with some cool shit, highlight is the miso butterscotch. In other words«hipster salted caramel». It works, pancakes are fluffy and the miso butterscotch is well balanced. Definitely deserves it TimeOut Sydney café award.

Coffee is good but not great. Service is friendly, and the café is one of the more comfortable spaces to hang out in the area. They play some good music here too.

This is probably one of the more instagrammable cafes in Sydney, or so I thought. Dishes are sadly put together with less care than one would hope for. I couldn’t bring myself to take any photos of the dishes Maybe management changed, maybe they’re understaffed or maybe too many walk-ins overwhelm the chefs, but an unsuccessful first visit does not invite another.

What can I tell you about the coffee at Edition? It is different. And yes, just in case you were wondering, different is good. Very good. These guys have unique flavour that will assault your palate whether you choose a black or white coffee. Where as most cafes have a blend for white coffees and a lighter single origin for blacks, Edition just uses singles. In general this is avoided as the delicate florals or sweetness from coffee can easily be suppressed by milk, and thus you’ll normally find more robust flavours mixed into a blend to overpower, or cut through the milk. Edition instead uses the suppressive power of milk to highlight some of the lighter notes. God knows what kind of a magic wand they wave over the coffee while it is getting roasted, but it is something worth trying out. In store you can also try out the next mystery coffee that is popping up here and there. Elixir is some sort of cold brew coffee that apparently tastes different depending on how long it has been brewed. Think light whisky, mugicha(barley tea) and coffee had a love child. It is very delicate, but worth trying out. Passion: 10⁄10 Crema: 10⁄10 Coffee: Edition Coffee Roasters

It’s chucking down rain like the apocalypse outside and I’m ensconced in this clean little corner café watching people battle with broken umbrellas, sipping a perfect flat white and oh look, a nice man just put a plate of fluffy hotcakes with miso caramel, glazed peaches and crème fraîche in front of me. This place is Da Bizznizz, and I say that with whatever accent you think is appropriate for such weighty words. The design is Nordic — clean lines, natural wood, white tiles — and the food is a Nordic/Japanese fusion, yeah the portions are on the small side but who gives a fig, they dishes are beautifully constructed, like little works of art, and the flavour profiles are refined, thoughtful and utterly sensational. Howard C was bang on the money, it’s a mega chill place, it’s actually better to be in here while it’s raining, you could be in downtown Oslo during a wet summer. 5 stars from me because nobody is doing careful, top class food like this in such a casually continental setting, with such super friendly and relaxed service. They better get used to seeing me here.

Awesome café. More of a 4.5 than a 4. You definitely get the blend of Japanese and Nordic influences here just by how minimalistic it is. These guys know their coffee and have several brews going, from specials, to cold brews, to Japanese brew(weekday only) and filter. I wanted to try the Japanese brew but already ordered a flat white and didn’t want to get over-caffeinated, but I will save it for another time. Flat white was on point. It’s really chill here and the music is a nice mix. It’s relatively quiet here so you can come here solo to get some work done or just hang out, or come with a group it doesn’t matter. They recently introduced their Autumn menu and I ordered the Nordic Chicken, which is a jasmine and fennel poached chicken with jasmine, jasmine cream, shaved almonds, pickles, and lotus. Delicious. Tasted really fresh and different. If you’ve had Nordic cuisine you’ll know what to expect. If you haven’t, well just know that any plant is usable and ingredients are fresh. I also had a blackberry and apple tart that was great. Great addition to Darlinghurst.

Beautiful presentation on food. Skagen was yum but very little portion. Brunch degustation would be a fitting term. Coffee here are amazing. Things ran out pretty early. We wanted to order smoked salmon open sandwich and it was out. So we changed to 2 Skagen, and only 1 portion left. So we had to changed again. It was 10:30am. They need to sort out their logistic fast. Overall, the food was presented beautifully and tasted great. However, portion are small for the price. In other words, it’s expensive. I won’t be going back too soon.
